The Faculty of Medicine celebrates the World Osteoporosis Day with an awareness seminar on the disease and prevention methods

Within the framework of the celebration of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University on the World Osteoporosis Day, an awareness seminar on the disease and how to prevent it was held yesterday at Al-Binhawi Coliseum at the faculty, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hala Sweid, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, attended during which Prof. Dr. Salma Al-Saeed, Professor of Geriatrics, and Dr. Ziad Zakaria, Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University.

The activities also included measuring the percentage of osteoporosis for the attendees.

         
   
         

In her speech, Prof. Dr. Hala Suwaid, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, defines osteoporosis, noting that the highest stage of bone density growth occurs at the age of 30 years and then gradually decreases.

Prof. Dr. Ziad Zakaria, Assistant Professor of Surgery Explained the difference between osteomalacia, osteomalacia, rickets, the extent of osteoporosis and the impact on the spine.

Prof. Dr. Salma Al-Saeed, professor of geriatrics, lists the group most at risk of fragility: women over the age of 50, men over the age of 70, as well as those with broken bones as a result of an accident or an accident that causes a fracture.

     
 
     

It also clarified the causes of osteoporosis, including factors related to medications and diseases that reduce bone density, the presence of a history of fragility in the family and advanced age, noting that 30% of Egyptians suffer from osteoporosis, which is the most prevalent among women.

The symposium also discussed prevention methods that start from childhood and extend through all stages of life through building bones, following a healthy diet, avoiding smoking and soft drinks, eating dairy, cheese, yogurt, sardines, salmon, nuts, exposure to sunlight and exercising.

The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members, public figures and employees of the college and university.
