The President of Ain Shams University inaugurates the Department of Hematology and Marrow Transplantation at Demerdash Hospital after its development

The inauguration included the Department of Hematology and Marrow Transplantation after its development with a donation from the National Bank of Egypt. The department includes a number of internal beds, 12 care beds and 7 capsules for marrow transplantation for patients with cancerous tumors. Also, 10 intensive care beds were opened, including two for isolation under the auspices of (C) at the Surgery Hospital, which serves patients of emergency or operations surgery hospital, which is equipped at the highest level with a full donation from the Zakat Committee of Demerdash Surgical Hospital, in addition to the opening of Ain Shams virtual hospital and telemedicine, in addition to a number of academic and study halls and a meeting room in the building of the Surgery Department.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, thanks all the success partners from the institutions that support the university’s plans for development in the medical and educational sector and at the level of innovation, including the National Bank of Egypt, the Central Bank, the Bank of Egypt and the Commercial International Bank (CIB).

He stressed that the mechanization of hospitals is one of the most important steps that will support scientific research, and there are tangible steps in this regard taken by Ain Shams University Hospitals, which are in line with the state's plan to automate hospitals.

He added that an organized and ambitious plan has been drawn up to develop the Demerdash Hospital for Surgery to become in the ranks of surgical hospitals, whether general or private surgeries, as well as the development of the burn unit.

For his part, the price of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Hospitals Board of Directors, the efforts of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University for Hospital Development, since he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, also praised the role of the National Bank in improving medical services provided to patients, praising its continuous and permanent support for Ain Shams University hospitals.

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar thanked all the medical team at the university, who was able to prove his worth and face the challenges imposed by the Corona pandemic with the utmost professionalism, stressing the keenness of Ain Shams University Hospitals to provide the best possible medical service to all patients.

On his part, A. Hisham Okasha on the National Bank of Egypt’s constant endeavor to complete its contributions to the development of Ain Shams University and its affiliated hospitals, which so far amounted to more than 600 million pounds, which were directed to the university and its hospitals with its various specialties, which is part of the bank’s contributions in various areas of social responsibility, which exceeded 8.5 billions of pounds in recent years.

Dr. Ali Al-Anwar expressed his pride in the growing role of the National Bank of Egypt and its partnership with Ain Shams University Hospital (Demerdash), which is one of the largest hospitals that serves about half a million patients annually for free from Cairo and all neighboring governorates in various medical specialties, in addition to that it includes the best competencies from Doctors and the nursing staff, as the National Bank of Egypt constantly seeks to develop the service provided by it, on top of which is reducing waiting lists for patients and providing the best health care for the Egyptian citizen, adding that the opening of the Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Ain Shams University Hospitals (Demerdash) came as a continuation of the work for its development that began for years, the department has enjoyed a distinguished national and regional reputation for its contribution to treating thousands of patients, serving about 85 inpatients per month, about 1,800 day care patients, and 2,400 outpatients.

Prof. Dr. Hossam Kamel, a pioneer of hematology at Cairo University and the former president of Cairo University, explained that bone marrow transplantation is performed in Egypt at a rate of 8 cases per million people, and the global ratio reaches 45 cases per million people, which confirms the need for continuous development in this sector to reach global ratios and reduce the lists of patients. wait, praiseing the comprehensive renaissance witnessed by Ain Shams University Hospitals, stressing that Ain Shams Medical City would be the pride of Egypt and would provide an integrated medical service.

Prof. Dr. Tarek Mohamed Youssef, Director of Ain Shams University Hospital for Internal Medicine, explained that the blood department, after its development, has global capabilities to serve the Egyptian patient. Its center has a capacity of 11 beds, 8 isolation rooms for marrow transplantation, and a pharmacy for preparing chemotherapy and therapeutic nutrition.

Prof. Dr. Tariq Youssef indicated that the number of cases attending the clinics and the blood department at Ain Shams University Hospital; It receives more than 1000 cases per month in the outpatient clinic, and 600 cases per month during the day.

The transplant cases reach 80 cases annually, and the internal department receives more than 200 patients per month due to the length of the patient's stay according to the nature of the disease.

Narmin Shehab El-Din explained that the National Bank of Egypt contributed by donating 45 million pounds to develop the Department of Hematology and Marrow Transplant in two phases, the first phase started at the end of 2019 and exceeded 35 million pounds, and aimed to increase the absorptive capacity of the Department of Hematology and Marrow Transplant in terms of the number of patients, as well as Raising the level of equipment to make the department structurally in line with quality standards and infection control requirements for blood diseases, and it can treat all categories of immunodeficiency patients with blood and bone marrow transplants with all they need from isolation rooms. The air quality is a crucial element in their recovery, and a decent place to inject chemotherapy for the day care patients of the entire hospital. As for the second stage, it was in late 2021 and amounted to 10 million pounds.
