Nigel Topping, the climate champion, praises the pioneering climate ambassadors’ program at Ain Shams University

Nigel Topping, the British World Climate Champion and the United Nations candidate for the Conference of the Parties to Climate Change (COP27), met the Youth of the Million Youth Volunteer Initiative for Climate Adaptation, on Wednesday, January 19, at the British Embassy, ​​in the presence of fourteen other young people, representatives from the House of Representatives, the Presidential Program and a group of Egyptian scientists. Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research stated.

She added that the Climate Ambassadors Program, which is part of the Million Youth Volunteer Initiative for Climate Adaptation, is the leading training program in Africa and the Middle East for carbon and climate literacy, which was launched under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community and Environmental Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Noha Samir, Dean of the Faculty.

Prof. Dr. Noha Donia, Dean of the Faculty, said that during the meeting, progress in confronting climate change from 2015 until now, and what has been achieved from the Paris Agreement at the Glasgow Conference 2021, were discussed, and three axes related to climate change were discussed, namely, how to reduce gas emissions, reduce carbon levels, and how to coexist with climate changes. This is known as climate adaptation and how to obtain the necessary financial support for developing countries in facing climate change.

The World Climate Champion promised that he will work to empower young people in high-level coordination and advise on the implementation of the strategy on climate change and the Conference of the Parties to Climate Change in Sharm El-Sheikh next November COP27 and will participate in presenting his own lectures for the Climate Ambassadors Program to convey his experience in the 26th Cop conference, which was held in England.
