The conclusion of the scientific conference “Integrated Waste Management and Circular Economy”

The Scientific Conference “Integrated Waste Management and Circular Economy”, which was organized by the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research, recommended establishing a waste recycling unit in all industrial establishments and making it one of the requirements for licensing the facility, having a mechanism for sorting, treating and managing hazardous medical waste at the level of the Republic, and designing a national strategy to bury nuclear waste at the El-Dabaa plant in Egypt, the conference also recommended following the recommendations of the European Union in managing the waste of solar energy cells in particular and e-waste in general, expediting the issuance of laws and legislations for the management of electronic waste, the need to eliminate random and open dumps, and raise awareness among those who deal with garbage according to its quantity and quality.

The conference, which was held on the occasion of World Environment Day from June 6-8, was under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President of Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Reham Refaat Mohamed Abdel Aal, Vice Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hala Ibrahim Awadallah, Deputy Institute of Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Dr. Taha Abdel Azim Al-Sabbagh, conference rapporteur, and Dr. Huda Helal, conference coordinator, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Waste Management Authority, witnessed a number of sessions over three days, each of which came out with a set of recommendations.
