Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Major General Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Assar, Minister of State for Military Production, Dr. Osama Heikal, Minister of State for Information, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, witnessed the opening of the MASRI Ain Shams Medical Research Center, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdel-Wahab Ezzat, the former university president, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr, the former president of the university, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hamad, President of the British University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Atribi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banque Misr, Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser Sengab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Abdel-Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and a group of faculty deans and heads of pharmaceutical companies, 12 international experts including the former president of the American Cancer Society and the president of the African Cancer Society and a group of experts from the United States of America, France, England, Italy, China and India.
Where Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the approval of the project submitted by the Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine Research Center (MASRI) funded by the Science and Technology Authority Fund of the Ministry of Higher Education for an amount of 20 million pounds, valuing the efforts made by the university to serve the sector Health, not just medical, and making scientific research available to researchers.
The President of the University stated that the Ain Shams Medical Research Center seeks to be a leading center in scientific research in Egypt and the entire region, as it contains 6 departments for pre-clinical research, genome research, and stem cell research, as well as an accredited center for clinical research, a unit for the treatment and research of liver viruses and a unit Bioinformatics.
This was in cooperation with the colleges of pharmacy, dentistry, nursing and also the corresponding medical colleges at the regional level, in addition to cooperating with the universities of Zewail and the Nile, he also pointed to the prominent role of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University in scientific research in Egypt for 70 years, where it had a head start in many research Scientific.
His Excellency also thanked Professor Dr. Adel Al-Missiri for his essential role in establishing the Center.
While Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser Sengab, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, said that Ain Shams University is ancient in education, scientific research and community service, explaining that the university is witnessing a boom at the international level, indicating an increase in patents and the publication of scientific research, according to the latest international statistics, which showed that the University Ain Shams occupies the first rank in scientific publishing at the level of Egypt, which added a distinction to the university, as well as the presence of many international partnerships with universities and institutions located at the forefront of global classifications, indicating that the university is seeking in the current period to further promotion in international classifications in order to offer outstanding service through the organization of the role of scientific research alongside the new programs that will contribute to solving the problems of society and the development of the economy.
Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, the acting dean of the Faculty of Medicine, explained that the aim of the center is to develop medical and biological medical research and translate it into benefits for society for a better healthy future through four main goals: promoting excellence, developing talented researchers, influencing research and engaging patients, the public and professionals, in cooperation with researchers in biomedicine, health and communication with decision makers, as well as providing multidisciplinary opportunities across academia, industry and health care in all its forms among the biomedical and health medical research.
Prof. Dr. Hisham Al-Ghazali, Director of the Center, said that the center contains, for the first time, a vital cancer bank, which is the largest in the Arab region, and contains tissue and organic samples, and the associated clinical characteristics of about 28 thousand patients, and researchers aspire through it to know the genetic characteristics of Egyptian cancer patients, which in turn is reflected on the discovery of medicine and the careful selection of medications with so-called personal medicine.
The center is closely related to the Drug Discovery Center, Faculty of Pharmacy, with the aim of discovering new patterns of medicine in various branches, especially liver tumors.
It is worth noting that the center has several partnerships with Egyptian and international research centers such as the University of Zewail, the National Research Center, Fudan University of China, and ranked 40th in the world in cancer treatment and the French University of Montpellier.
The Board of Directors of the Center consists of several Egyptian and foreign scientists, including: Professor Ahmed Kasib, Head of the Liver Cancer Unit at the MD Anderson Institute in the United States of America, and Dr. Pascal Pujol, Head of the Genetics Unit at the University of Montpellier, France. Then the attendees visited the Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine Research Center, the Faculty of Medicine Skills Laboratory, which teaches all skills to pathological conditions for students from the first to the fifth teams, as well as graduates and resident doctors.
