In order for the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector at Ain Shams University to play its role in serving the community and developing social and humanitarian awareness, the sector, in cooperation with the Rotary Heliopolis Sporting Club, organized a visit to the Martyr Ahmed Shawqi Hospital for Geriatrics, with their participation in raising morale and offering them gifts.
The visit came under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of the University and Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and with the coordination and presence of Prof. Jihan Rajab, Advisor to the Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and coordinated by Prof. Vice President of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs and environmental development, in the presence of Prof. Walaa Wissam Ali, Director of the Hospital for Geriatrics, and under the administrative supervision of Mr. Major General Hossam El-Sherbiny, Assistant Secretary-General of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and in the presence of Mrs. Nadia Mohamed Al-Husseini, journalist, President of the Heliopolis Sporting Rotary Club, and members of the Rotary Club.
During the tour, Prof. Jihan Rajab confirmed that the visit coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, which falls on the first of October every year, noting that this celebration is of great importance in drawing attention to the conditions of the elderly in various countries of the world and their different needs, pointing out what the elderly need the utmost love, care and attention in all aspects, especially health care since the elderly are more susceptible to diseases and health problems that require regular medical examinations.
Prof. Walaa Wissam Ali, Director of the Hospital for Geriatrics, stated that the hospital is the first and pioneer of its kind in the Middle East to treat elderly patients of all categories, and it has obtained accreditation from the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control, becoming the first university hospital in Egypt to obtain accreditation, and the hospital is supervised by an elite group from the faculty staff of geriatric medicine at Ain Shams University, the hospital is a pioneer at the scientific level and academic research, and it has an internal department, private isolation rooms, a dialysis unit, intermediate care, intensive care, and a unit for cognitive and functional rehabilitation, in addition to outpatient clinics, palliative care, physical therapy services, and a babysitter service for the elderly.
A number of administrators from the Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs sector participated in the visit.
