Awareness symposium on "The National Project for Plasma Derivatives... Our Medicine by Our Hands"

In the midst of an intense and unprecedented student presence, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, opened an awareness seminar on the "National Project for Plasma Derivatives and its Importance to Support the Health System in Egypt", in the presence of Prof. Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research and Coordinating Prof. Jihan Ragab, Advisor to the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and administrative supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Saeed, Assistant Secretary General of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs.

The symposium was hosted by Major General. Dr. Magdy Amin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grifolls Egypt, and Dr. Medhat Al-Adl is a doctor, writer, poet, screenwriter, and the honorable Sheikh Dr. Ramadan Abdel Moez, the distinguished scholar at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.

During the opening speech, Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini welcomed the guests, stressing the necessity of racing in science and research so that we can witness this in the sectors of the state, basic education, higher education, and scientific research in particular, and the challenges that serve humanity in all fields, indicating that the time has come to add to science and not just receive it.

He drew attention to the changes the world is witnessing, including climatic changes, and what Egypt is witnessing for the first time an unprecedented rise in temperatures, which is one of the challenges that need concerted efforts in coherent and ambitious scientific research to face these challenges.

He stated that the African continent had faced the Corona pandemic with difficulty and that the time had come to produce medicine, as there are expensive medicines in which plasma enters, and through a donation, we can manufacture an entirely Egyptian medicine without the need for international countries.

He also called on the audience to donate plasma for themselves, and their family and valued the human and ethical aspects of donating plasma and the need to develop a culture of donation in general, especially among the younger generations, and educate them on giving and community participation.

In his speech, Prof. Muhammad Awad Taj El-Din pointed out the importance of the plasma project, as it is a real Egyptian national epic that began with the manufacture of medicine in Egypt. There are 177 factories that manufacture medicine, but all of them import the raw materials used in the manufacture of medicine in hard currency.

He pointed out that during the four years of the Corona pandemic, many countries were satisfied with covering their needs for medicine, so Egypt directed a project to manufacture medicine from plasma derivatives with real political support from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and plasma products are used in many industries.

Advising everyone to participate by donating so that we can benefit from a comprehensive health check-up and benefit in the manufacture of medicine, and the state seeks to provide medicine and national health security for all.

In his speech, Maj. Gen. Dr. Magdy Amin expressed his happiness and pride in being present at Ain Shams University under the leadership of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, and His Excellency began his speech by defining plasma and that it is the main source for the manufacture and provision of these medicines, which is one of the components of blood, and that it is a transparent yellow liquid that represents 55% of human blood, and water represents more than 90% of the components of plasma in addition to proteins, salts, and other components.

He also gave an explanation of plasma derivatives, which are medicines that are manufactured from blood plasma and are essential to the lives of thousands of patients, and are used to treat more than 80 chronic and serious diseases.

His Excellency spoke about the national project, which affects Egyptian national security, the state, and the citizen, and medicine is one of the most important national projects in the world of medicine, which is acquired by international companies and countries.

He touched on talking about the corona period and the developed countries manufacturing a vaccine to eliminate and prevent the disease, and after vaccinating 60% of their people, they looked to the third world to supply them with the vaccine, and now America and Europe provide the world with plasma to manufacture medicine in hard currency, so there was a trend towards a project to manufacture medicine from plasma, as every country is looking for its sources of strength, including weapons, water, gas, minerals, etc. Therefore, this project is considered a national security project.

He drew attention to the establishment of the first factory in Egypt to manufacture plasma in the Administrative Capital and 20 plasma donation centers are being established with accreditation from the International Agency for Centers Evaluation, and currently, 10 centers have been completed and completion is underway.

He explained that donating plasma is safe, as the donor undergoes evaluation, medical examination, and laboratory analysis before being allowed to donate in order to ensure his safety and the absence of any health reasons preventing him from donating, and the donation is made through a special technique to separate the plasma during the donation. He added that the donor does not lose any of the components or other blood cells, through 10 specialized plasma collection centers in Egypt, which are being prepared to receive donors and qualified at the best level, and with the participation of human effort and political support, the desired goal has been achieved.

In his speech, His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Ramadan Abdel Moez began the hadeeth with the goodness of the words of God Almighty, “Whoever kills a soul, unless it is for manslaughter or corruption in the land, it is as if he killed all people, and whoever saves a life, it is as if he saved all people.” Referring to the first murder in humanity, the crime of the sons of Adam.

Stressing that the priorities in zakat are medicine because relieving pain and treating the patient has a great reward with God Almighty.

And he spoke about the first of the most beautiful names of God that were mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, “Al-Akram.” Islam teaches us generosity, and calls us to have the attributes of the Messenger (PBUH). The donation is considered as charity and what I deserve to be born is someone who lives for himself only.

Completing his speech by asking about the general purpose of Islamic law? Islam came to take care of people's interests and keep harm away from them, so the safety of the bodies takes precedence over the safety of religions.

At the end of his speech, he called on everyone to donate plasma. The nation is built by the arms of its children, for God Almighty commanded us to spend from everything, whether blood, money, knowledge, etc., pointing to the reward for contributing to bringing happiness and pleasure to a family that saved its breadwinner with your donation.

Dr. Medhat El-Adl pointed out that the symposium addresses the educated and educated elite of the attendees, who are messengers to educate the Egyptian people, as each person has an influential environment by virtue of personal and scientific competence. He called on everyone to donate, saying, "Whoever you donate to today, his son will donate to you tomorrow." It is a case of community integration, and it is necessary to educate others, transfer experiences to them, and constructively participate in the success of the national project.

The symposium was attended by a group of deans, vice deans of various faculties, general managers, directors of departments and centers, workers in the education sectors, students, community service affairs, environmental development, university students, and military education students led by Colonel Staff Officer. Ahmed Fahmy, Director of the Department of Military Education at Ain Shams University, and Mr. Amr Essam, General Coordinator of the Department of Military Education, within the closing activities of the university's cultural season, which was organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector.

At the end of the symposium, the guests were honored by gifting them the university shield.
