Ain Shams University and Atomic Energy sign a protocol for scientific, research, academic and applied cooperation to qualify graduates and build human cadres in the areas of peaceful uses of atomic energy

Yesterday, Ain Shams University and the Atomic Energy Authority signed a protocol for scientific, research, academic and applied cooperation for the peaceful uses of atomic energy. The protocol was signed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Amr El Hag, President of the Atomic Energy Authority, in the presence of Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Hedaya Ahmed Kamel, Vice President of the Commission for Training and International Cooperation. Dr. Muhammad Rajaa Al-Satohi, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Hanan Al-Shaer, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Girls for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Nabil Al-Faramawi - Head of the Physics Department at the Faculty of Science and Prof. Khaled Abu Shanab, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Graduate Studies and Research.

         
   
         

Also participated from the Atomic Energy Authority in the signing ceremony of the protocol from the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology Prof. Amani Ismail, Professor of Polymer Chemistry, Department of Radiological Research, Prof. Hassan Ibrahim Saleh, Head of the Industrial Irradiation Division, Prof. Mohamed Balboul, Undersecretary of the Radiation Research Division, as well as Prof. Mostafa Mohamed Hamed, Head of the Analytical Chemistry Department at the Hot Laboratories Center, Prof. Muhammad Al-Bahrawi, Professor of Nuclear Solid-state Physics at the Nuclear Research Center, Prof. Sherif El-Gohary, Professor at the Nuclear and Radiological Safety Research Center and the official spokesperson for the authority.

The protocol includes cooperation between the authority and the university in several areas to qualify graduates, build human cadres, and cooperate in the fields of applied research for the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Visits to undergraduate students, postgraduate students and faculty members of the Atomic Energy Authority to learn about the working system of research atomic reactors and the authority’s four centers in Anshas and Nasr City and their capabilities, as well as summer and specialized training in the authority’s laboratories and to benefit from distinguished students in specialized studies.

         
   
         

As for cooperation in the research and academic field, it will include the formation of a partnership between Ain Shams University and the Atomic Energy Authority at the level of university programs for postgraduate studies, such as the "Professional Master" program, which is supervised by the Departments of Chemistry and Physics at the Faculty of Science, provided that the certificate of the program is with the participation of both sides. The cooperation will also include proposing new programs. For masters and diplomas, with the participation of both parties in the unique disciplines in the fields of radiological and nuclear sciences and their various applications, in addition to the authority’s experts reviewing and updating the relevant courses and proposing new courses that are in line with the labor market in this field, especially in light of the growing interest in the Egyptian nuclear program. The Authority is implementing workshops for postgraduate students in the field of radiological and nuclear sciences.

The cooperation will also include the participation of the two parties in research projects with a national return, the exchange of experiences, the use of scientific equipment available to both parties, and the sharing of research results, with the start of presenting joint scientific projects between both sides for research-funding agencies in the Arab Republic of Egypt, such as the Science and Technology Development Fund and the Academy of Scientific Research.

As for cooperation in the applied field, it will include cooperation in applying the academic outputs of programs and research related to radiological and nuclear sciences to serve society. Cooperation will include the use of software and codes in engineering fields and nuclear science fields, as well as areas of improving agricultural, industrial, medical and agricultural products. A joint working group will be formed from both parties to undertake the preparation of an annual action plan to implement the provisions of the cooperation protocol effectively and efficiently.

         
   
         

Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, stressed in the meeting the importance of this cooperation with the authority, especially in light of the state's orientation and interest in atomic energy and its uses, as well as its interest in science and scientific research for development. He also stressed that this cooperation will support the building and qualification of graduates and faculty members in applied fields for peaceful uses. For atomic energy, as well as opening new fields for postgraduate studies specialized in these fields, which will contribute to building human cadres and qualifying them for the labor market and this promising field, as well as opening new research and applied fields for faculty members from both sides.

Dr. Amr El-Hag, the head of the authority, stated the importance of signing the protocol with Ain Shams University, as it is one of the oldest Egyptian universities, with its distinguished academic and scientific expertise in various research and educational fields. The signing of the protocol comes within the framework of the authority's strategy to cooperate with Egyptian universities to build human cadres and increase Community awareness of university students and graduates in the areas of peaceful uses of atomic energy and the importance of studying related scientific disciplines in light of the implementation of the Egyptian nuclear program for electricity production as well as the state's support for the activities of the Atomic Energy Authority for the peaceful uses of atomic energy in various fields such as industry, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine and engineering as well as a contribution The Authority, with its facilities specialized in new applied research and research projects.

         
   
         

Dr. Ayman Salih, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, stated that this protocol represents an important shift for the university and the authority, especially since all operational steps for its implementation have been studied by the work teams from both sides to start activating the protocol immediately.

Dr. Sherif El-Gohary, the official spokesman for the authority, stated that the authority is seeking, in the current period, to activate its activities and cooperate with Egyptian universities, including Ain Shams University, the oldest Egyptian university, with the aim of raising awareness among the university's youth generation and building human cadres for the Egyptian nuclear program.
