Higher Education: Distinguished Results for Egyptian Universities' Participation in Cairo ICT Exhibition

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, praised the results achieved by the ministry during participation in the sessions and competitions that were held within the activities of the Cairo International Technology Exhibition Cairo ICT. Ayman Ashour referred to the Ministry's participation in the activities of the conference in several sessions; It is the digital transformation in a thousand days. Digital transformation projects for higher education institutions were presented through three axes; (higher education, scientific research, university hospitals), a session on future technology for university hospitals - citizen health, and a session on metaverse, electronic games, and VR. The ministry also participated in a session on methods of maximizing the use of agricultural digital technology.

The minister noted the competitions that were held within the activities of the exhibition, during which Egyptian universities achieved many distinguished results, as they participated in competitions; University Innovation Competition (UIC) University Innovation Competition, Startup Pitching Competition, Digital Transformation Theses Outcomes Competition, Cybersecurity Competition, University E-Gaming Tournament, Egyptian Game Development Competition (EGDC) Egyptian Game Development Competition

         
   
         

The minister explained that the university innovation competition is contested by teams of students who have developed prototypes in various fields. It aims to help the winning students create new products in the market and develop their projects.

158 teams from various public, private, civil, and technological universities and institutes applied for the competition, and the innovations of students and participating teams from various higher education institutions were presented over two days.

Dr. Hisham Farouk, Assistant Minister for Digital Transformation pointed out the results of the university innovation competition; Zagazig University won a prize of 50,000 pounds, Cairo University and the Higher Technological Institute in the Tenth of Ramadan City won an equal prize of 35,000 pounds, and Benha University won a prize of 15,000 pounds.

Dr. Hisham Farouk added that the digital transformation theses competition targeted young researchers with a master's or doctorate; To choose the best message in the field of digital transformation, and 30 researchers from different universities participated in it. The results were as follows: Researcher Mohamed Sayed Ramadan won first place for research entitled: “A machine learning method to confirm analyzes for the discovery of anti-cancer drugs in the laboratory and predictive analyzes in the discovery of cancer drugs” with a prize of 35 thousand pounds. In second place, researcher Nariman Mamdouh Ahmed won a research titled: “Using Deep Learning to Detect Pests and Classify Diseases for Precision Cultivation of Olives” with a prize of 25 thousand pounds. Researcher Radwa Reda Hosseini won third place for research entitled: “Development of a Powerful Electrocardiogram System” with an award. An amount of 15 thousand pounds and certificates of appreciation were awarded to a number of other distinguished researchers.

The Ministry of Higher Education participated in the Egyptian Game Development Competition, and the competition targeted university students who developed games, as well as helping the winning students to develop their games and display them in the electronic games pavilion at Cairo ICT 2022.

In the competition, Ain Shams University won first place with a prize of 35,000 pounds, and also second place with a prize of 25,000 pounds, and Nile University won third place with a prize of 15,000 pounds.

The report referred to the Emerging Projects Competition, where 29 emerging companies working in the fields of digital technology were presented to it, generating actual revenues and providing a valid service. 3 prizes were presented to the winning companies, worth EGP 50,000, EGP 35,000, and EGP 15,000, in addition to the Cybersecurity Competition. an electronic games competition, presenting gifts to all attendees, and a special prize for a wireless keyboard and mouse; For the fastest student in solving questions.

It is worth noting that Cairo ICT Conference and Exhibition has been held since 1996, and has been honored by the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi over the past seven years. It is considered one of the most prominent technology forums in the Middle East and Africa since its launch. The current session was held under the auspices of the Minister of Higher Education and scientific research during the period from 27 to 30 last November.
