The Minister of Higher Education honors Ain Shams University students who won first place in the 2022 "Enactus" World Cup competition

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ain Shams University student team, honored winners of first place in the Enactus World Cup competition, which was held in Puerto Rico for the year 2022, with the participation of 32 countries, in the presence of Dr. Taya Abdul Latif, Advisor to the Minister for Student Activities, Dr. Ayman Farid, Advisor to the Deputy Minister for Employment, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, and Dr. Khaled Kaira, head of the Department of Mathematics and Engineering Physics, and supervisor of the team at Ain Shams University.

The minister affirmed his keenness to meet the students and honor them personally in appreciation of their achievement, praising the victory they achieved, and noting that this achievement confirms the status and distinction of Egyptian universities, as well as the distinction of the ancient Ain Shams University, offering congratulations to the family of Ain Shams University on the victory of its students.

The minister affirmed his confidence in university students and their abilities, and their distinction at the local, regional and international levels, pointing out that the ministry provides full support to outstanding students in all fields, assists innovators and inventors to implement their projects, and implement their inventions, and connects them with the relevant authorities with their innovations in the labor market and industry.

The minister expressed his admiration for the project that the students implemented for its scientific and practical benefit on the environment, and the economic return from its application, calling on students and young researchers to direct their innovations to serve the community and to present innovative creative ideas that contribute to creating development projects that benefit society and contribute to overcoming its problems. Referring to the ministry's approach to encourage training-based education in order to push students to go into entrepreneurship, help them start projects in their specialties, and gain work experience while studying.

For his part, Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, expressed the team's interest in achieving cooperation with different faculties and coordination between them in the implementation of the country's vision, adding that this cup is the sixth for Egyptian universities in Enctus competitions since its inception, in addition to Egypt winning second place twice previously.

Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, expressed her thanks and appreciation to the minister for honoring the team, stressing the full coordination between the faculties of humanitarian and practical disciplines to form an integrated work team and achieve honorable results at the global level.

The students won first place at the level of the Republic, which qualified them to participate in the international competition. The students won first place in the competition for their project based on extracting Chitosan from Nile locust crustaceans, and this material contains a percentage ranging from 40 to 60% of the chitin used in the extraction of chitosan, and the two materials represent a high value for their use in many industries, including the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

During the meeting, the students presented the importance of their project and the desired benefit from its application by providing an environmentally friendly solution and achieving a project without any waste. The locust body is also used to manufacture poultry feed as a cheaper alternative to feed and to fill the local market’s need for feed, especially since the Nile locust peels contain a proportion of protein up to about 20 to 30%, which is very suitable as animal feed and its effect on chicken nutrition is better than regular feed, and the team was also able to produce environmentally friendly agricultural pesticides and manufacture a filter for water purification.

The minister handed the students medals in appreciation of their achievement, and the students thanked the minister for this honor, expressing their appreciation for hosting them and celebrating their victory and their project, and they stressed the continuation of scientific diligence to reach the best scientific and research results.

It is noteworthy that the competition included the first group "Egypt, Mexico, Germany, and Kyrgyzstan", and the group that qualified for the next round included "Egypt, Nigeria, Brazil, and Morocco", and Ain Shams University won in the final round the last group that included "Tunisia, England, and Canada". The team includes 350 students from the faculties of (Engineering, Science, Medicine, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Commerce, and Al-Alsun), and 45 students in the implementing team, and the team was represented by students from the Faculty of Engineering: “Mohammed Saad, Ziyad Wajih, Habiba Zogheib, Maryam Noah, Omar Imad, Tasneem Ahmed.” And from the students of the Faculty of Al-Alsun: “Fatima Yasser, Jumana Sameh, Shaima Salah.”
