Ain Shams University is witnessing a state of student momentum in preparation for the first round of student union elections in faculties today, Sunday, where 882 male and female students compete for membership in the Union Members Conference and the positions of secretaries and assistant secretaries of committees in various university faculties, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Supervising Elections, the university faculties announced the final lists of candidates for the student union elections. The number of candidates reached 882, including 452 male and 430 female students at the university level.
The electoral campaigning began last Thursday, corresponding to December 1, in preparation for the first round of student elections today, Sunday, corresponding to December 4, under the supervision of the Supreme Elections Committee, headed by Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Supervising Elections, and the membership of Prof. Dr. Walaa Anis, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Tamer Abdel Moneim Rady, professor at the Faculty of Commerce and the committee's liaison officer, and Mrs. Reham Al-Atifi, who is managing the work of the Assistant Secretary of the Education and Student Affairs Sector, and Mr. Ibrahim Saeed, Acting Director General of the Office of the Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Malik, Director General of Legal Affairs, and students, Mustafa Mahmoud Al-Sayed, fourth year, Faculty of Law, and student Hadeer Ismail Bakr, third year, Faculty of Commerce.
The university faculties witnessed intense student activity in withdrawing candidacy forms for membership of the federation councils. They also witnessed many agreements between families and different student blocs in many faculties, with a very competitive presence of students from the Family for Central Egypt.
The election process in each faculty is supervised by a committee formed by a decision of Prof. Dr. The Dean of the Faculty follows up on all the procedures of the electoral process in the faculty.
Prof. Dr. Sahar Suleiman, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, encouraged the students to participate positively, pointing out that the desire for public work is one of the most important elements of participation in the electoral process, as well as the desire to serve others, with the need for candidates to have a precedent of influential activities and participations within the university community.
Prof. Dr. Najwa Badr, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information, directed invitation to the students of the Faculty to participate in the election of a representative in the Student Union, pointing out the importance of exercising the electoral right with transparency and integrity, while emphasizing the need for public work that is in the service of students and the university community. Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, explained that immediately after announcing the date of the start of the elections and based on the directives of His Excellency the Representative, Prof. Dr. in the Youth Welfare Building and in the departments of the faculty, the date of the start of the elections, the counting of votes, the submission of appeals, the conditions for applying for candidacy, and the location of the elections, in coordination with all the concerned authorities in the faculty so that the process of candidacy and elections is ensured in a calm manner.
As Prof. Dr. Ahmed Jalal, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture confirmed to students of the faculty that candidacy for student elections is a tool for interaction between the student, academic life, and society to strengthen relations, develop communication, and unleash creative student energies that contribute to the formation of general culture and the development of thought, as participation in decision-making is an educational goal for universities and that student elections are an approach that establishes democracy practiced by students and gives them the right to freely choose who represents them through the ballot box.
As Prof. Dr. Hazem Rashid, Dean of the Faculty of Education stated that immediately after the approval of the formation of the committee to supervise the elections in the faculty, which was prepared by Prof. Dr. Safaa Ahmed Shehata, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and Chairman of the Committee Supervising the Faculty Student Union Elections.
It was also announced that the elections would start in all parts of the faculty according to the approved timetable, so the forms for the elections were received from the Supreme Committee of the University and the nomination door opened on Thursday 11/24/2022, and the initial lists of candidates were announced on 11/27/2022 and the final lists of candidates for union membership on 11/30/2022.
Is expected that the first round of elections will start on Sunday 4/12/2022 in several of the university’s faculties. In the event that the quorum specified by 50% plus one of the total number of students in each study group is not completed, a round will be held for the same group on Monday 5/1/2022 to achieve The legal quorum is 20% of the band’s students or 1,000 students, whichever is less.
The elections of the secretaries and assistant secretaries of the union committees will be held in each faculty on Tuesday 6/12/2022, and the elections of the union presidents and their deputies will be held on Wednesday 2/7/2022.
