The first meeting of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee at Ain Shams University

The first meeting of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee was held at Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting as Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and the membership of the Vice-Deans for Community Service and Environmental Development in the Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, Environmental Studies and Research, Girls, Agriculture, Science, Education and Specific Education, and the membership of Major General Ahmed Lashin, Secretary General of the University, and Mr. Suhail Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Mohamed El-Gamal, head of the central administration of the university president sector, and prof. Mohamed Abdel-Malik, Director General of Legal Affairs and Mr. Saeed Tarek, Director of Medical Care, Colonel Hatem Saber, Director General of University Security, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Abdel Rahim, Director of the Civil Defense Department, and Prof. Sayed Sarhan, Director of the Occupational Health and Safety Department.

During the meeting, Prof. Ghada Farouk stressed the need to form sub-committees within each faculty for the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, with the importance of training individuals responsible for implementing occupational safety and health work on how to protect and safety methods.

Her Excellency stressed the need to review the current position of all facilities in terms of the necessary equipment for civil protection.

The committee discussed the need to start implementing the committee's goals and plans through trained teams to avoid any material or human losses.

The committee also confirmed that Ain Shams University seeks to apply internationally applicable standards and codes, while adhering to the laws of international labor organizations.

The proactive plan developed by the university to implement the goals and principles of occupational safety and health, which is to be activated in cooperation with crisis and emergency management, fire brigades, evacuation, shelter, maintenance, ambulance and information gathering, was reviewed.

The committee announced that the activities of the training courses scheduled to be held in the field of occupational safety and health will begin next Thursday.

It is noteworthy that the Occupational Safety and Health Authority and Committee was formed by a decision of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, on November 2, 2022, for two years.
