A symposium on governance and environmental protection at the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, hosted the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at the university, headed by Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty, "Mr. Martin Dexter" Director of Policies and External Relations and Executive Vice President of the Institute of Management and Sustainable Development in England in a symposium entitled "Governance and Environmental Protection", in the presence of Prof. Dr. Reham Refaat, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Alaa Sarhan, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and a group of faculty members, researchers, and specialists in the field of the Faculty and those interested in environmental protection issues.

During the meeting, ways of cooperation and partnership between the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research at Ain Shams University and the Center for Environmental Management and Sustainability in England were discussed, and this partnership will support the Faculty in many areas, including the provision of new accredited academic programs.

         
   
         

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Samir Donia, Dean of the Faculty, reviewed the Faculty’s mission, its international classification, its scientific departments, its study programs, and its various units.

Prof. Dr. Ali Nasser, a professor at the Faculty of Basic Environmental Sciences and a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, coordinated the partnership and worked to implement and activate it.

She touched on the initiative of the Egyptian and African climate ambassadors and presented an explanation of the Shams Bee Green project and the development of the Ain Shams University carbon footprint calculator project.

         
   
         

Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia said that the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research has obtained membership in the Institute of Management and Sustainable Development in England, and three new master's programs will be accredited.

Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia added that membership allows the Faculty to participate in all webinars and conferences held at the institute and to view the research published there.

Mr. Martin Dexter presented a brief introduction to the Institute of Environmental Management and Environmental Assessment in England and a presentation of the various activities of the Institute and its effective role there, where the Institute contributes to providing environmentally friendly job opportunities or what is known as “green jobs” and works to achieve the plan to reach the state of zero carbon in England and this plan extends until 2050.

This experience will be used and applied in Egypt, where the Institute is working to transfer the English expertise to Egypt, in cooperation with the University's Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research.
