The Faculty of Graduate Studies for Childhood at Ain Shams University organized a workshop entitled "Providing Cognitive-behavioral Group Therapy for both children and their parents for treatment of Childhood Depression", under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Howayda Al-Jabali, Dean of the Graduate School of Childhood Studies, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Kahki, director of the Center for the Care of People with Special Needs, under the supervision and coordination of Prof. Dr. Manal Omar, Head of the Psychiatry Unit and Professor in the Medical Department, lectured by Dr. Nermin Nabil Fawzy, the psychiatrist.
The workshop discussed negative cognitive patterns that cause depression, which arise during childhood from interactions with the surrounding environment, especially within the family. Therefore, the lecture presented an approach targeting psychological disorders in children as well as parents by providing collective cognitive-behavioral therapy for children and their families, each separately in the treatment of depressive disorder when Children, rather than relying solely on modifying children’s cognitive patterns directly, modifying negative cognitive patterns related to parents themselves and their children indirectly modifying children’s cognitive patterns by imitating that parents provide their children with healthy adaptive cognitive patterns to help them overcome the depressive disorder.
The workshop included practical training on cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques with session simulations, on Sunday and Monday, 30-31/10/2022, with a certificate from the Faculty, at ten o'clock in the morning on the fourth floor at the center's headquarters.
