A lecture on recent and future trends in geographic information systems, Faculty of Arts

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams, Prof. Dr. Sherine Mazloum, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies and Research, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Moawad Badawi, Head of the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the Faculty, the Department of Geography and GIS at the Faculty held a scientific seminar and a lecture entitled “Modern and Future Trends in GIS”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Lotfi Azaz, Professor of Urbanism and Geographic Information Systems and Head of the Geography Department, Faculty of Arts, Menoufia University.

The lecture dealt with a number of themes, including: the development of geographic information systems, their software and topics, aspects of their study, specializations, outputs, past and present, their connection with other sciences, assistive technologies and the labor market, with linking them to sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030, and in light of the recommendations of the 2007 International Geographical Union Conference While addressing the problem of geographic information systems approaches and geomatics programs in Egyptian universities, the lecture recommended proposing curricula for these programs, as well as working in all possible ways to return Arab geography to the position it deserved over time due to the efforts of pioneering Arab scientists by working to keep pace with the tremendous development that is taking place Currently and in the future in geographic information systems worldwide, as well as the lecture recommended interest in this field in pre-university study.

The attendees also interacted through questions and discussions, which were answered by the lecturer. Prof. Dr. Moawad Badawy, Head of the Geography and Geographical Information Systems Department chaired the seminar and followed up on the lecture.

The dialogue and the seminar session were moderated by Dr. Walid Abbas, Dr. Mahmoud Khader, in the presence of Faculty Staff, Teaching Assistants, and graduate students, in addition to the presence of Faculty Staff and graduate students in Egyptian universities.
