Events and recommendations of the symposium on the efforts of Ain Shams University towards transforming into a green university in light of climate changes

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Diaa, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Prof. Dr. Karim El-Batouty, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and in the presence of a group of faculty members and students, the Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University organized a lecture entitled: “Climate Changes” The carbon footprint. The university's efforts to transform into a green university.

This was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Dia with Dr. Hoda Helal, Director of the Green Transformation Unit at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, due to its presence among the students of the Faculty of Dentistry. His Excellency praised the topic of the symposium

   
   

He said that this lecture comes within the efforts made by the university under the auspices of the university president, which began by establishing the first specialized center at the level of Egyptian universities in the field of green transformation to support active participation in the national initiative for smart green projects within the framework of sustainable development and Egypt's vision 2030 in conjunction with Egypt's preparation to host the World Summit "COP 27", which is scheduled to be held from November 6-18, in Sharm El-Sheikh.

He added that climate changes are not local issues, but are issues of concern to global public opinion, so our students must know what the meaning of climate changes is and the extent of their impact on society to realize the importance of this important matter and how dangerous it is.

   
   

Prof. Dr. Karim El-Batouti also added that the Faculty of Dentistry is keen to teach students to use environmentally friendly medical methods. For example, in order to preserve the patient's health from toxic fumes resulting from amalgam fillings, amalgam fillings have been replaced by composite fillings and environmentally friendly glass fillings.

The faculty has also been keen during the current period to dispose of waste in a safe manner so as not to harm the environment with toxic gases resulting from those wastes.

This was addressed by the seminar presented by Dr. Huda Helal, Director of the Green Transformation Unit at the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, aims to support the dissemination of green thought and raise environmental cultural awareness, in addition to calling for cooperation between the faculty and the Green Transformation Center by forming groups of volunteer students who are trained to adopt green thinking in order to modify behaviors towards the environment to become The correct environmental behavior is prevalent and common, and these groups spread this awareness among their peers, in addition to calling for organizing a student visit with the support of the faculty administration to the center to learn about the various projects in the framework of supporting the transition to green, introducing the shams Be green project, presenting the university’s experience to transform waste The restaurant and cafeterias are converted to organic fertilizers through transformative devices, and suggestions are made to conduct a feasibility study for the paper waste recycling and hydroponics project so that the student can apply it after graduation as a profit-oriented project.

During the lecture, Dr. Huda Helal explained the causes of heat emissions and the causes of the human carbon footprint, which is the first cause of increasing its area. She also reviewed solutions that can reduce the carbon footprint, such as: rationalizing the use of energy and fuel from riding bicycles instead of cars to reduce carbon and thermal emissions, and working to recycle Waste recycling, waste rationalization, behavior modification and rationalization of consumption.
