Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Shereen Mazloum, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, organized a lecture entitled: "Climate Changes... Carbon Footprint... University Efforts to Transform into a Green University."
Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel said that this lecture comes within the efforts of Ain Shams University headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini in this field, which started to establish the first specialized center at the level of Egyptian universities in the field of green transformation to support effective participation in the national initiative for smart green projects within the framework of sustainable development and Egypt’s vision 2030 in conjunction with Egypt’s preparation to host the World Summit on Climate Change “COP 27”, which will be It is scheduled to be held from 6 to 18 November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The seminar presented by Dr. Huda Helal, Director of the Green Transformation Unit at the College of Graduate Studies and Environmental Research, aims to support the dissemination of green thought and raise environmental cultural awareness, as well as a call for cooperation between the college and the Green Transformation Center through the formation of groups of volunteer students who are trained to adopt green thinking in order to modify behaviors towards the environment. So that the correct environmental behavior becomes the prevalent and common, and these groups spread this awareness among their peers, in addition to calling for organizing a student visit with the support of the college administration to the center to learn about the various projects in the framework of supporting the transition to green, introducing the shams Be green project, presenting the university’s experience to transform Restaurant and cafeteria waste to organic fertilizer through transformative devices and suggestions for a feasibility study for the paper waste recycling and hydroponics project so that the student can apply it after graduation as a profit-oriented project.
During the lecture, Dr. Huda Helal explained the causes of heat emissions and the causes of the carbon footprint of humans, which is the first cause of increasing its area. she also reviewed solutions that can reduce the carbon footprint, such as: rationalizing the use of energy and fuel from riding bicycles instead of cars to reduce carbon and thermal emissions, working to recycle waste, rationalizing waste, modifying behavior and rationalizing consumption.
On her part, Prof. Dr. Hanan Kamel honors Dr. Hoda Helal for her efforts in enriching the lecture by gifting her the college shield.
The symposium was held in cooperation with the Students' Union and in the presence of the faculty staff, the teaching assistants, the staff, the youth Welfare Department, and the Students' Union at the faculty.
