The Board of the Faculty of Engineering honors the ASU RACING TEAM and the fourth place winner in the Shell ECO Marathon competition

During the activities of the Faculty Board in its session held on September 12, 2022, Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, honored the ASU RACING TEAM, the fourth place winner in Shell ECO Marathon competition.

This series aims to urge students to innovate and find solutions to different problems that arise with each competition. The team managed to win first place in Egypt and the Middle East, second place in Africa and Europe, and finally fourth place in the world.

Team achievements in competitions

Future Show Competition

The team won the first place in the world in the Show of the Future competition - Shell Environmental Marathon and received a prize of $1,500.

The 2022 Show of the Future competition entitled: Enhancing the knowledge of self-driving vehicles

The challenge was “How can the human factor be replaced by artificial intelligence to create a seamless autonomous vehicle experience?”

The team impressed the judges with a creative and effective solution to the serious issue of self-driving car theft, and proposed a modification to the vehicles that would give them the ability to detect suspicious activities and protect occupants through decision-making models using data collected by vehicle sensors.

The jury chair commented, “Great work by the team, strong presentation skills using dramatic video backed by mature and robust simulation, a very special issue was chosen, which captured the judges’ imaginations, really well done, team!”

Future car competition

A competition aimed at designing an Arab with futuristic specifications, taking the K.I. From the movie Knight Rider as inspiration, the team won second place in Africa and Europe.

Shell AI Environmental Marathon Competition

A competition that challenges students to improve the efficiency of a program to control the movement of a self-driving car and try it in a simulation program. The team used the Carla program and developed a car that consumes the least amount of energy and takes the shortest way to reach the target at full speed while adhering to traffic rules and ranked fifth in the world.
