Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Okasha, founder of the Center for Psychiatry at Ain Shams University, opened Dr. Ahmed Okasha Psychiatry Center at the university hospitals after its development and renewal, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hatem, Chairman of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives, Professor Mohamed El-Atreby, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banque Misr, Prof. Dr.. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zaki Badr, former minister and former president of Ain Shams University and member of the Ain Shams University council, Prof. Dr. Osama Mansour, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, former Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Executive Director of University Hospitals, Prof. Dr.. The developments in the center were carried out, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tarek Okasha, the general supervisor of developments, and Prof. Dr. Maha Sayed, director of the center, at a cost of 45 million Egyptian pounds, of which Banque Misr contributed 30 million, and the university, Nahdet Misr Association and other parties contributed the rest of the amount, as the internal building area was increased by 147 square meters and the clinics were increased from 9 to 18 Establishing an equipped intermediate care department on the fourth floor of the building, equipping an isolation room on the fourth floor for patients, and adding an elevator to the building, bringing their number to 2 elevators in the building.
The renovations also included the addition of 2 emergency stairs at the entrances, in addition to the addition of 3 sensory rooms for children to serve children with autism, learning difficulties and many other disorders.
The center's information system was also developed and linked to the network of hospitals in the training and development building, raising the efficiency of fire alarms and fire sensors in the building, increasing the number of bathrooms to 15 bathrooms in the building to become 30 bathrooms, and raising the electrical capacity of the building from 5 megabytes to 1 megabyte.
Also, the adaptation system was changed from 75 split units to 200 units, afforestation worked in front and behind the center, and a cleaning room was added in each floor of the building, changing rooms for personnel working in the center, nursing, workers, etc., and an internal staircase in the building to connect the ground floor to the basement.
The developments also included raising the efficiency of the center, installing marble walls in the building, and finishing and developing the center completely
And the construction of a football field and a basketball court to serve patients, and all medical and non-medical equipment in the center were renovated.
In his speech during the opening, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, expressed his happiness at the opening of the renovations of another edifice of Ain Shams University hospitals, stressing that improving the work environment has a positive impact on research and scientific production. He also spoke about Ain Shams Medical City, which relies on a comprehensive vision to improve the work environment, and emphasized. Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini said that work on such huge projects can only be accomplished with the help of success partners from businessmen, banks and charities such as Nahdet Misr Association, the charitable arm of hospitals and others, pointing out that one of the most cooperative partners with the university is Banque Misr and the National Bank, which cooperation with them resulted in Many developments in colleges, university hospitals and others.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini thanked all the contributors to the success of this project, stressing that the university is rich in human cadres who continue to give and communicate with new generations, expressing his happiness and pride in meeting today with the symbols of medicine in Egypt, who are role models and the symbol from which he learned a lot in all aspects of life besides experience Scientific, led by Prof. Dr. Okasha is the founder of psychiatry in Egypt and the region and one of the pioneers of this important specialty in the world and former president of the World Psychiatric Association, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, noting that communication between generations is what distinguishes the Faculty of Medicine.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Awad Taj Al-Din confirmed his keenness on the university's participation in the opening of the Prof. Center. Dr. Okasha Center after its renewal, in appreciation of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Okasha at the scientific and human level, who has made great contributions in the field of psychiatry, in addition to his happiness with the participation of Ain Shams University in the opening of a new edifice, praising the amazing development in the medical service and constructions witnessed by the university’s hospitals and other places at the university, Wishing more progress and prosperity, stressing his pride in Ain Shams Medical City.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Okasha explained that treating the unable patients was the primary goal when establishing the center, and he thanked the administration of the Higher University, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, for the rapid response to the development of the center, and he also thanked those who financed the renovations and developments, including the Engineer Sabour Center for Engineering Consultations, who donated the provision of engineering consultancy and construction of the project.
In his speech, Mr. Mohamed El-Etreby, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banque Misr, said that part of Banque Misr's social responsibility is to contribute to such projects that provide an outstanding medical service to those who are unable.
Prof. Dr. Osama Mansour, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, indicated that a two-month training will be provided for internship doctors at the center, to rehabilitate them, especially since some organic diseases may be caused by psychological causes, so the doctor needs to hone his expertise in this aspect.
Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar explained that the development approach includes developing the place and the medical service provided to provide a medical service to those who are unable at the same level that is provided to those who are able, stressing that during the coming period the opening of projects will continue.
In the word of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Omar, the former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, thanked the work team and Banque Misr, partners in success in this development, for providing a medical service for the psychiatric patient who needs support and a qualified place to receive treatment, and called on young doctors to maintain this place and be proud of this development.
Prof. Dr. Maha Sayed, director of the center, confirmed that the renewal and development of the center comes within the Ain Shams Medical City, this giant project led by Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, pointing out that the center provides high-quality psychiatric care for psychiatric patients and victims of addiction, and it is a center affiliated with Ain Shams University Hospitals and dedicated to short-term stay, and it is also a specialized training research institute that provides education and training in the field of psychiatry, and was chosen as the first facility in The Middle East is entrusted with coordinating research and training in the field of mental health by the World Health Organization.
Prof. Dr. Maha Sayed thanked the professor of generations Prof. Dr. Ahmed Okasha for the great effort and continuous giving for the elevation of specialization, as well as thanks to the pioneers of psychiatry Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kamel, and Prof. Dr. Zeinab Bushra, and Prof. Dr. Afaf Hamed for their efforts for this very important specialty.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Tarek Okasha, reviewed a historical overview of the center, presented memorial photos and a video recording of the opening of the center in 1990, which was inaugurated by Mrs. Suzan Mubarak, wife of the then President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. He reviewed the center's treatment units and the stages of development witnessed by the center.
During the celebration, a short film about the city of Ain Shams Medical University was broadcasted as Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, President of Ain Shams University, honored and gifted a shield to those in charge of the project and success partners.
It is noteworthy that the center enjoys a privileged location, serving nearly a third of the population of Greater Cairo, and it provides services to patients residing in the cities and villages of the surrounding governorates.
The Psychiatric Center is considered the first psychiatric hospital to be established in the university hospital complex. Its establishment had a pioneering role that allowed psychiatric patients the opportunity to receive care and treatment under the supervision of a team of specialists with the highest academic qualifications and the best academic degrees.
The center is also cooperating with the World Psychiatric Association for research and training in psychiatry, and cooperating with the World Health Organization for research, training and health.
