A seminar to present the latest developments in the service directed to diabetic children who follow the insulin pump clinic

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, the Diabetes Unit at Ain Shams University Children's Hospital organized a seminar to present the latest developments in the service directed to diabetic children who follow the insulin pump clinic.

This was in the presence of Prof. Dr. Osama Mansour, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hala Swaid, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Executive Director of Hospitals, Prof. Dr. Samia Abdo, Deputy Executive Director of Hospitals, and Prof. Dr. Tariq Yousef Deputy Executive Director of the Hospitals, Prof. Dr. Manal Hamdi Al-Sayed, Head of the Pediatric Department, Prof. Dr. Fathi Tash, President of Nahdet Medicine Association, Ain Shams, Prof. Dr. Eman Mounir, Head of the Diabetes and Glands Unit, Prof. Dr. Yasmine Gamal, Director General of Children’s Hospital, Prof. Dr. Yasmin Ibrahim Al-Hanawi, Director of the Diabetes Unit, and a group of faculty staff by section.

The seminar included a celebration of the installation of 10 modern insulin pumps with sensors to measure blood glucose level. One of the most important features of the Minimed 780 G insulin pump is the automatic control of the amount of insulin infusion depending on the blood sugar level and automatic correction when the blood sugar level rises.

Prof. Dr. Eman Mounir, Professor of Pediatrics and Head of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Unit at Children's Hospital, Ain Shams University, the mechanism of action of the modern insulin pump, criteria for selecting patients, and presentation of results showing the effectiveness of using the insulin pump one year after the start of service provision for a total of 65 children with type 1 diabetes.

The results indicated a significant improvement in the cumulative sugar level and a significant decrease in the rates of hypoglycemia, as well as a decrease in the rates of ketogenic coma.

The results also showed an improvement in diabetes complications, with a significant improvement in the quality of life of children and their families.

Her Excellency thanked Prof. Dr. Osama Mansour, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Hala Swaid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Environmental Affairs and Prof. Dr. Manal Hamdi El-Sayed, Head of Pediatrics Department and Prof. Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Executive Director of Ain Shams Hospitals, and Prof. Dr. Yasmine Gamal, Director of Children's Hospital.

She also thanked Prof. Dr. Fathi Tash, President of the Nahdet Medical Association, Ain Shams, to donate 10 modern insulin pumps (Minimed 780G)

Prof. Dr. Hussein Bushnaq, Vice President of the Nahdet Medical Association, Ain Shams, shed the light on the work and achievements of the association.

Prof. Dr. Yasmin El Hennawy, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Diabetes Unit explains the schedule for installing the Minimed 780G insulin pump and the follow-up mechanism for children in the clinic.
