The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering honors members of the advisory team for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center building at Ain Shams University

During the activities of the Council of the Faculty of Engineering in its session held on May 16, 2022 AD, Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini - Dean of the Faculty, honored the members of the Engineering Consultation Center headed by Prof. Dr. Yasser Mujahid, Dr. Ayman Farid and Dr. Hussein Farid for the work of architectural and interior design, and Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Hilal for Business Dr. Ahmed El-Shimy for Mechanical Works and Prof. Gamal Hussein for the Structural Works of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center is the first building in the Arab Republic of Egypt to receive the EDGE ADVANCED Certificate of Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiency.

Dr. Ahmed El-Shimy - as one of the members of the advisory team - spoke with sincere thanks and gratitude to the university administration headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini and the Vice-Presidents of the University, in addition to Prof. Dr. Omar Muhammad El-Husseini - Dean of the Faculty for his support of the consulting team in this giant project.

The EDGE certificate - "which means excellence in design for greater efficiency" - is one of the most important international certificates for the classification of green buildings, as it was developed by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, to address the environmental footprint of the built environment, and aims to reduce the environmental impact of buildings in Three areas: direct energy consumption, water consumption, and the energy footprint of building materials.

To obtain this certification, a building must be 20% more efficient than standard buildings in the same area, where the building is evaluated in three categories: energy, water, and energy embodied materials.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center building achieved 42% energy savings, 44% water savings, and 62% energy savings embodied from materials, thus obtaining EDGE Advanced, the highest range in this certificate as a first precedent in the Arab Republic of Egypt in EDGE Certification Domain

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center building was designed and implemented in cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University under the supervision of the Engineering Consultation Center at the Faculty of Engineering and the Egyptian Armed Forces through a comprehensive development process for the old restaurant building located inside the university city of Ain Shams University.

The building was designed with the latest Building Information Modeling BIM design systems, and the design aims to create diverse and flexible spaces that provide an environment that supports the thinking of innovation, entrepreneurship and employment similar to similar centers globally.
