The Faculty of Engineering Council honors outstanding faculty students

The Council of the Faculty of Engineering, in its session held on Monday, April 11, 2022, headed by Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty, honored the winning students in the ideal student’s competition at the level of Ain Shams University, who are:

And they were handed certificates of appreciation from the faculty administration represented by Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini Abdel Salam - Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Refaat Ismail - Vice Dean of Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Munib Al-Sabbagh - Vice Dean of Community Service and Environmental Development and Prof. Dr. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat - Vice Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Affairs.

Prof. Dr. Yahya Kamal Abdel Moneim - Chairman of the Board of Irrigation and Hydraulics Department, and Dr. Muhammad Hamid Abdo Al-Fayoumi - Coordinator of the Site Coordination Program at the faculty, participated in the honoring.

During the council, it was also announced that the team of the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University had won first place in the world in the Future Show competition - Shell Environmental Marathon.

Under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Head of the Automotive Department of the Faculty, the racing team of Ain Shams University, Faculty of Engineering, won the Future Show competition - Shell Environmental Marathon entitled: cognitive enhancement for self-driving vehicles, for the first place in the world, and a prize of $1,500.

It is worth noting that the competition aimed to find out “How can the human factor be replaced by artificial intelligence to create a seamless experience for an autonomous vehicle?” The team impressed the judges with a creative and effective solution to the serious issue of self-driving car theft and proposed a vehicle modification that gives them the ability to detect suspicious activities and protect passengers through decision-making models using data collected by vehicle sensors.

The jury chair commended the team commenting that “a great job by the team, strong presentation skills using dramatic video backed by mature and robust simulation, a very special issue was chosen, which captured the judges’ imaginations.”
