Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Acting Minister of Health, and Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, inaugurated the activities of the 14th International Conference on Breast and Women's Tumors and Immunotherapy, and the Second International Conference on Lung Tumors and Immunotherapy, which runs on January 20 and 21, in the presence of Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Ashraf Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, and Dr. Hisham Al-Ghazali, President of the International Society of Breast and Gynecological Oncology and Immunotherapy, a group of professors, scientists and experts, representatives and officials of a number of international associations specialized in this field.
In his speech, the Minister stressed the importance of this session of the conference, which is concerned with discussing the benefit of the successive technological developments in the field of communications and information and their use in oncology treatments, praising the conference’s interest in using artificial intelligence in imaging and pathological diagnosis of breast tumors, as well as the use of liquid DNA sample to diagnose and follow-up lung tumors.
The minister also praised the important agenda of the conference, which includes the announcement of genetic drugs directed at treating breast, lung and ovarian tumors, with the participation of the Research Center at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, to activate vaccines for some types of cancer, and to localize genetic and information solutions for oncology patients in Egypt, referring to the reference genome project for the Egyptians, which It is an important national project, due to the importance of gene therapy in predicting future epidemic diseases and preparing to confront them, and the early discovery of genes related to the most common diseases among Egyptians and determining the best ways to treat them.
Dr. Abdul Ghaffar pointed out that the convening of this session of the conference comes as an extension of the success of the previous series, and a dedication to the achievements it has achieved, and its importance is increased by the sensitivity of the stage that humanity is going through in the face of the Corona virus pandemic, a crisis that has caused great suffering to the humanitarian community. Its positive results are restoring the status of medicine and doctors in human societies and emphasizing their position among the priorities of any society.
The Minister praised the large attendance of scientists, professors and experts in this important medical specialty, and the opportunity this provides for the exchange of experiences and expertise, and to learn about the latest developments and developments in the field of breast tumor treatment and immunotherapy, and to provide young doctors with learning experience.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar thanked the family of Ain Shams University and the Faculty of Medicine for the good organization of this event, and for the distinguished international attendance of representatives of scientific societies, expressing his wishes that the work of the conference, through research papers, visions and perceptions presented, would result in results and recommendations that contribute to advancing the treatment and diagnosis of breast and women tumors forward. Dr. El-Metini pointed to the large attendance of the conference despite the Corona pandemic, and the participation of international associations, Egyptian universities and research centers, which indicates the importance of the scientific event, adding that the conference deals with the field of oncology; Chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy, diagnostic medicine, gene therapy, and the use of artificial intelligence and the Internet of things within the diagnostic sessions to help doctors, stressing the importance of these new technologies and keenness to introduce and assimilate them within Egyptian universities and research centers, including Ain Shams University Research Center, He added that the trend for diagnostic medicine is the future of treatment in general and oncology in particular.
Professor Luis Sheva, representative of the European Society of Oncology, expressed his happiness to participate in this conference, and to share experiences with Middle Eastern countries, especially Egypt, pointing to the accreditation of two oncology centers at Alexandria and Mansoura University from the European Society, with the readiness to accredit more centers during the coming period.
On his part, Dr. Hisham Al-Ghazali pointed out that this session witnesses the presence of great international scientific standing in the field of oncology, as 15 international associations specialized in the treatment and diagnosis of tumors are participating, with the participation of about 200 scientists from more than 60 countries, and the conference contains more than 300 scientific and research papers and 15 axes of them. : (immunotherapy for tumors, pathology, radiology, surgery, analysis, genetic testing and cancer research), and several skill workshops. The conference also grants, for the first time, an accredited certificate to attendees in advanced ovarian tumors.
During the conference, it is scheduled to launch 5 new drugs for breast, lung and ovarian tumors, and to introduce new generations of targeted, hormonal and immunological treatments, which represent the third generation of treatments, and are considered a major qualitative leap in the treatment of cancer in general. It helps in increasing recovery rates, reducing the need for chemotherapy, and integrating old treatments to reduce the patient's suffering.
