The President of Ain Shams University opens the closing ceremony of the International Day of the Arabic Language

Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, inaugurated the closing ceremony of the university's celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language, in the presence of Dr. Shawky Allam, Mufti of the Republic, and Ambassador Khairat Lama Sharif, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Cairo, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Fakhrani, Assistant Minister of Awqaf and Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and a group of deans, deans of colleges and students.

         
   
         

During his speech, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini said that the celebration coincides with the International Day of the Arabic Language, which falls on the eighteenth of December of each year. Arabic is the language of the Noble Qur’an and an icon of Arab and Islamic civilization.

His Eminence also referred to the distinction of the Arabic language by its richness in synonyms, and the enormity of its vocabulary, which surpasses other languages. In addition to its ability to localize and contain words from other languages, it is also characterized by the phenomenon of metaphor, counterpoint, alliteration, contrast, assonance, simile, and the innovated improvements it contains.

         
   
         

He added that the Arabic language absorbed the civilization of Islam, Arabs and non-Arabs, and melted them into one melting pot.

Dr. El-Metini said that Ain Shams University took care of all languages ​​in general and the Arabic language in particular through the departments of Arabic language teaching in the university’s faculties such as literature, girls, education and language, and the Arabic language departments at Ain Shams University provided the opportunity for students and researchers to master Arabic language skills, placing students at the heart of cultural interactions It also provided distinguished programs in language and translation for non-Arabic speakers, which are of great interest to non-native speakers.

He added that out of Ain Shams University's awareness of the status and importance of the Arabic language, the university was keen to celebrate it on its international day to establish and instill a love for learning and getting to know it more and more widely among students, and to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of the Arabic language by preparing a program of activities and special events that enhance the role of language Arabic as a common pillar and link that embodies the richness of human existence

       
   
       

Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh added that this celebration represents a dear day for us, as we all gather to celebrate the Arabic language and culture as specialists and non-specialists, to celebrate the language of the Dhad, pointing out that our beautiful language has not received proper care and attention in recent eras and has even been neglected by many sectors of us, stressing that attention to the Arabic language and culture is a necessity for many reasons, they are the root of our personality and the basis of our identity, and they are our expression of our joys and sorrows, as well as our history and our way to excellence.

During his speech, Prof. Dr. Shawky Allam expressed his great happiness and appreciation for hosting a prestigious university such as Ain Shams University on the day of the celebration of the Arabic language, adding that the Arabic language was honored by the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, and we need a great pause and a review of our dealings with the Arabic language, as it is the vessel of Arab and Islamic civilization, most of the nation’s scholars are not from The Arabs, pointing out that in order to understand the Qur’an and derive rulings from it, we need a complete understanding of the Arabic language, adding that the Arabic language is a very flexible language, so we find ourselves understanding the Seven Mu’allaqat, which is a long time ago, contrary to what Shakespeare wrote, noting that the fatwas that appeared in previous years were As a result of not understanding the Qur’an and its language, he stressed that the Islamic religion is a religion of mercy. We repeat the name of God, “The Compassionate, the Merciful” more than 50 times per day, so where are we from that, calling for a return to the rational thought and behavior of our Noble Prophet.

During his speech, Ambassador Khairat Lama Sharif, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan, expressed his pride in the invitation and hosting him at Ain Shams University, especially since he is not Arabic-speaking, but the Kazakhs are the grandchildren of Imam Al-Bukhari and Al-Zahir Baybars, as well as Al-Farabi, who was born in Kazakhstan, adding that in Kazakhstan after independence, the Kazakhs were born. The opening of several Arab universities, and that about 60 students who graduated from the Faculty of Al-Alsun are working in the foreign ministry in his country, stressing that he will convey the experience of Ain Shams University, a pioneer in the celebration of the Arabic language, and we should all be proud of the history of the Arabic language and be proud of our Arab history.

The thesis of Dr. Samal Tulio Yafia, a professor at the Department of Oriental Languages ​​at Eurasia National University in Nur-Sultan, entitled “Egypt is on my mind” was also presented.

This was followed by two seminars, the first entitled "Language in the Contemporary Arab Novel", moderated by the media and writer Rola Kharsa, in which the novelist Ahmed Al-Karmlawy, winner of the Katara Prize in Literature 2021, the journalist and novelist Professor Mustafa Obeid, the writer and novelist Dr. Osama Abdel Raouf Al-Shazly, Professor of Orthopedics.

The second symposium entitled (Prose poem), which hosts the poet Ibrahim Bagalati, Prof. Dr. Gamal Niazy.
