Empowering women in the field of literary studies... A symposium at the Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University organized a symposium entitled: "Empowering Women in the Field of Literary Studies".

The symposium was held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mortada, Dean of the Faculty, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sheren Mazloum, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. Dr. Somaya Sabri, Department of English at the faculty, moderated the meeting.

The seminar hosted Engineer Hanan Mohamed Zaki, Executive Director of the International Institute for Life Sciences, member of the National Council for Women, Giza Branch, and President of the Mokattam Rotary Club. That women represent 48% of the population of Egypt and that women are directly responsible for the other half of society through building a sound family, and stressed the great role of men in supporting and empowering women.

Engineer Hanan Zaki reviewed the vision, strategy and role of the National Council for Women, which was activated on a larger scale with the support of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President of the Republic. And she emphasized that cooperation, participation and empowerment are two sides of the same coin, and she also shed light on the initiatives and special campaigns launched by the Council, including: (Knock on doors - Stop harassment - Protect her from circumcision - Taa Marbouta - Your Voice for Bakra - 17 Days for Rural Women - Women Peacemakers) in addition to To the services provided by the Women's Skills Development Center and the training and employment opportunities offered by the center, in addition to helping her start her own business.

The "guest of the symposium" also explained the purpose of the slogan "The Ta' Marbouta is the secret of your strength", as well as the word "Koni", which carries the vocabulary of being (strong - ambitious - educated - empowered - ready).

The "Member of the National Council for Women" also urged female students to go to the council's complaints office by calling the hotline number 15115 in case they are attacked, harassed or their rights are violated.

On the sidelines of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mortada met the guest of the symposium and the coordinators in his office to discuss future ways of cooperation between the Faculty and the National Council for Women within the framework of the Faculty’s societal role in the participation of all state institutions and civil society institutions in developing comprehensive and sustainable development efforts at all levels, with an emphasis on going down to the ground and identifying problems in society. And put forward realistic and logical solutions to it.

As confirmed by Prof. Dr. Sheren Mazloum said that the symposium targeted students of the English Language Department, because critical thinking is an essential part of the study in the department and is practically applied in women's studies courses. judgments.

Mazloum said that this symposium is a step for the continuation of cooperation between the National Council for Women and the Faculty, as the idea of ​​forming a voluntary team of male and female students of the department emerged through the audience to participate in the council's various activities.
