The Department of Oriental Languages at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, launched, during the academic year 2021/2022, a special program for teaching the Hindi language, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mortada, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and the supervision of a. Dr. Rania Mohamed Fawzy, Head of the Department of Oriental Languages and Literature.
The new program is unique at the level of various Egyptian faculties and universities, as it provides professional education in the Hindi language.
The program aims to study and learn the Hindi language at the levels of reading, writing and translation in various fields, in addition to studying Urdu (as an auxiliary language) to enhance the learning of the Hindi language, to teach in the program, which contributes to providing the space to practice the language at the level of listening and speaking, and thus contribute to raising the level of graduates of the program.
The program also gives students the opportunity for summer internships in press institutions, various translation centers, and major Indian companies in Egypt.
The Hindi language program qualifies the graduate to many areas of the labor market inside and outside Egypt:
First, the economic field:
The volume of Indian investments in Egypt amounts to about $4.5 billion, and India is Egypt's third largest trading partner, in many fields such as: pharmaceutical industries, fertilizers and petrochemicals, and electronics. Major companies such as Microsoft, Reliance, and Dell have a strong economic presence in Egypt. India and thus in Egypt, and some of these companies have become of Indian origin, and thus learning and mastering the Hindi language has become the best way to work in international companies.
Second: The tourism field:
Indian tourism to Egypt represents a large proportion compared to other nationalities, especially beach tourism, religious tourism, or Indian filming tourism in Egypt, or vice versa. Reliance on tour guides who are fluent in the Hindi language has become essential in recent years.
The program provides all support for graduates to pass the Ministry of Tourism examinations in Hindi and obtain a license to practice tour guide.
Third: The cultural and artistic field:
Indian culture constitutes an original element in the cultural and artistic formation in the region in general, especially at the level of film production, which has doubled during the previous decades, so that the number of films reached 1,000 films annually. The program qualifies him into Arabic. The graduate of this special program will be able to understand and translate Indian series and films, according to accredited international companies. It also provides annual training in certified translation companies for the Indian film producer.
Fourth: The field of press translation:
The program qualifies graduates to work in the field of press translation in many Egyptian and Arabic websites and newspapers, which lack to follow the news of India and its military and political role in its original language. Various journalistic positions and work in Egyptian, Arab or international press sites.
It is worth noting that the Hindi language belongs to the Indo-European language family, and it is one of the major languages in the world, and it is ranked third after English and Chinese in terms of the number of speakers, and the percentage of Hindi speakers is approximately 11.55% of the world’s population, and it is the official language in India and in Fiji Islands (Hindustani), and outside India it is spoken in Nepal, in South Africa, Mauritius, Yemen, Uganda, and even in the United States, the Hindi language is widely spread worldwide and is no less important than English or other languages.
Admission requirements:
The program accepts candidates from the Egyptian General Secondary Coordination Office and its equivalent from a literary and scientific division to the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University. Enrollment in this program is allowed for Egyptian and expatriate students who have a high school certificate, a literary and scientific division from the Expatriates Department.
