A heavy turnout of the citizens to the second convoy of Faculty of Arts to eradicate illiteracy in the Moski neighborhood

The activities of the second convoy organized by the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University to eradicate illiteracy in El-Mosky district under the slogan: “Towards an illiteracy-free Egypt” witnessed a great turnout from citizens and great success in cooperation with the El-Mosky District Presidency, the Department of Adult Education, Cairo Branch, and the Adult Education Unit at the faculty, with the support of Egyptian clothing bank.

Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Didi, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, expressed that she is happy to go to the field and reach the citizens to encourage them to participate in the literacy project in Al-Moski district for the second time after the great success of the first convoy last February, within the framework of implementing the initiative of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, President The Republic to eradicate illiteracy, as well as in implementation of the decision of the University Council to integrate students of theoretical faculties into the literacy initiative, and in implementation of the directives of the university presidency and the administration of the faculties and the decision of the Community Service and Environmental Development Committee to participate in solving the problems of Egyptian society, especially literacy and adult education.

         
   
         

The convoy traveled throughout the Moski neighborhood, passing through street vendors, as well as the neighborhood’s residents and workers, which resulted in hundreds of exams to determine the level of students, as well as coordination to conduct refresher classes for them, and the convoy ended with honoring the citizens who took the exams.

Al-Didi indicated that the activities of the convoy included recording the names of the participating students, then the audio announcement of the convoy in the Al-Moski neighborhood, then receiving and recording the attendance of faculty staff, teaching assistants and students, then moving to Al-Moski neighborhood and reaching the first work point at Fatima Al-Zahraa Primary School.

Dr. Mohamed Qasem, coordinator of the Literacy and Adult Education Unit at the faculty, gave a lecture on the basics of dealing with illiterates and an explanation of the convoy program and work plan. Dr. Mohamed Qasem said that the students were divided into six groups, each under the supervision of a member of the faculty from the faculty, the six groups were also distributed on the streets of the targeted neighborhood until the illiterate people wishing to do a survey were received to divide them into groups according to their level, then distribute them to classes in a free or refresher system, then move to the second work point by assembling the neighborhood cleaners to educate them and make a registration for them.

Incentive aid and clothing provided by the Al-Kisa Bank were also distributed to the eligible illiterates participating in the survey. Qasem pointed to the success of the convoy in educating the people of the area, especially the street vendors in the Al-Muski neighborhood, about the dangers of illiteracy and the advantages of social learning. The convoy also resulted in a survey work for 412 persons.

         
   
         

The convoy was held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Hisham Temraz, Vice President of Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mortada, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and Prof. Dr. Ashour Ahmed Omari, President of the General Authority for Adult Education and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Didi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Community Service and Environmental Development, and Brigadier General Staff Majed Harb Al-Sayed Ahmed, President of Al-Mosky District, and the implementation of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Qasem, Director of the Literacy Unit at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the Adult Education Center, Ain Shams University, Mrs. Nourhan Sayed, Director General of the Cairo Branch of the Adult Education Authority, in the presence of a group of faculty staff and their assistants, who included Dr. Ghada Abdel Salam Fayed, Department of Archeology (Female Supervisor), Dr. Amani Abdel Rahim, Department of Tourist Guidance, Dr. Dina Sadiq Sayed, Department of Tourist Guidance (Female Supervisor), Dr. Rawan Ahmed Adel, Department of Archeology (Female Supervisor), Dr. Shaima Ahmed (Archaeology Department), Mrs. Saad Rizk (Department of History), Mrs. Nabila Saeed (Assistant Teacher, Department of Psychology), Mrs. Aya Raafat (Teacher in the Department of Psychology), a number of faculty students and employees of the Adult Education Authority, Cairo Branch, and the educational administration in Al-Mosky district.
