Lifting the metal body of the widest pedestrian bridges in Egypt to link the two campuses of Ain Shams University

To complete the campus development plan in implementation of the directives of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University; On the dawn of Friday, June 11, the new metal bridge linking the two sides of the campus was successfully installed to replace the old bridge that was built in the eighties of the last century, which was subjected to some accidents as a result of the small height below it, which is less than the permissible height according to the specifications.

The new bridge was designed by the Engineering Consultation Center at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, according to the highest levels of comfort and safety for users and to provide a safe height for traffic below. The external bridge is 7.3 meters wide, its internal net width is 6.4 meters, the internal bridge height is 3.2 meters, and its pure bottom height is from the road level. A transfer of 5.7 meters, making it one of the widest pedestrian bridges in Egypt.

A comprehensive maintenance and upgrading of all the original structural elements of the bridge was carried out, including the foundations, columns and the roof of the upper bridge, as well as the use of modern auxiliary elements of metal cables temporarily based on the current bridge body to maintain the information link between the campus facilities and the Specialized Hospital during the period of replacement and renewal.

To facilitate the use of the bridge, it has been provided with 4 escalators, in addition to the presence of two screens on the bridge body from the outside to display the first in the direction of Heliopolis and the second in the direction of Abbasiya, used for the information purposes of the university.

The bridge provides a special corridor for citizens to cross the two banks of Al-Khalifa Al-Mamoun Street, in addition to a separate corridor with electronic gates for Ain Shams University affiliates from students and faculty staff to ease of movement on both sides of Al-Khalifa Al-Mamoun Road, which reduces the traffic load on Al-Abbasiya Square.

The total cost of the bridge is about 22 million pounds, and the engineering works are expected to be completed and opened during next July.
