Inviting Dr. Mai Tolba, Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, and Clarissa Rios Rojas from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, as a representative of the “GLOBAL YOUNG ACADEMY” to present a statement at the Sixth Annual United Nations Forum on Scientific Innovation, Technology and Creativity “United Nations-STI-2021". In the fifth session entitled: Emerging trends and challenges in the field of science, technology and sustainable development goals.
Dr. Mai Tolba’s statement included opportunities and challenges to use free social media platforms to practice open science and how to harness these tools in a wise way to communicate research results in health sciences in a simple way to the general public with the aim of raising awareness to prevent diseases and improve public health. She also highlighted the cancer awareness platform she created two years ago called "Cancer and the Palace Guard" as an example of open science practice. The "Cancer and Palace Guards" platform aims to provide simplified tips to raise awareness of cancer prevention based on the latest documented research results. It also provides tips to reduce the side effects associated with chemotherapy.
