The Environment News magazine issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment discussed the professional and scientific career of Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, in 1993 Prof. Dr. Noha Samir obtained a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with a very good grade with honors, in addition to being awarded the title of the ideal student to be appointed as a teaching assistant in the same year, as she began her environmental trip, and the first stop of this trip was her obtaining a diploma in environmental management from Maastricht Faculty in the Netherlands in the year 1995.
Prof. Dr. Noha Samir obtained a master's degree in environmental systems analysis and monitoring from the Faculty of Earth and Space Sciences in the Netherlands, in addition to being honored by the institute as the best master's thesis for the year.
Prof. Donia describes the challenges she faced in the study in Europe by saying that the idea of an African and Arab woman was not acceptable in the Netherlands, in addition to being a veiled Muslim woman, and as a result, she faced many difficulties and harassment during mixing with Dutch society and in 2002 she was able to obtain a degree Doctorate in Environmental Engineering from the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University, to advance in positions until reaching the position of Professor of Environmental Hydraulics at the Institute and Head of the Environmental Engineering Department.
Prof. Dr. Noha Samir addressed the issue of empowering women in Egypt, describing it that the file of women's empowerment in Egypt has witnessed a great development in recent years, especially after the President's positive initiative in 2017 to make it a year for women, while the Institute for Graduate Studies and Environmental Research represents a miniature to be emulated in In this regard, the institute’s administration, dean and agents are women.
She also expressed her gratitude and thanks to Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University for his continuous support of the institute and support for the decision to convert it into a faculty, amend programs to the new regulation, and establish a green transformation unit that adopts all green transformation techniques from constructing green buildings and using solar energy technologies and the waste recycling project of all kinds of plastic, paper and metal, and organic.
Prof. Dr. Noha confirmed that the institute has already started taking several measures to convert the institute's facilities to be environmentally friendly, in addition to starting a project to recycle the university's waste of paper and plastic.
The vision of the institute and the future development plan is to be an environmental edifice that prepares environmental cadres, whether in Egypt or the Arab region, through the preparation of study programs, a garden that keeps pace with the times, that has no parallel in Egyptian universities, and cooperation and coordination with the environment concerned parties, in addition to the existence of an environmental consulting and research center for monitoring and evaluation. Environmental projects and supporting the concepts of sustainable development and Egypt's 2030 vision.
