A seminar at the Faculty of Science discusses securing chemical buildings

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Department of Chemistry, organized a symposium entitled "Securing Chemical Installations", under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ragaa Al-Satouhi, Dean of the Faculty and under the supervision and presence of Prof. Amani Suleiman, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development. Present at the symposium, Dr. Noor El-Din Ahmed Abdel Sattar, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry at the Faculty.

Dr. Noor Abdul Sattar, the lecturer of the symposium, explained during the events that chemical accidents represent a widespread threat to the public, as they can lead to a large number of injuries, and chemical accidents can affect economic and political stability at the global level.

He stressed that the symposium aims to identify the potential threats to chemical facilities in addition to identifying the chemicals of concern and their risks, and that the chemical facilities at risk are the facilities concerned with production, processing, research and development that have toxic chemicals located near the population centers, in addition to the material storage facilities. Chemical and chemical laboratories.

During the symposium, Dr. Noor discussed the standards of dangerous chemicals such as chemicals that are used as weapons or basic components used in the manufacture of weapons and chemicals that can cause fear among people and social anxiety, as well as the main differences between safety and security in chemical facilities.

Where safety standards aim to identify the weaknesses in the design and philosophy of controls that achieve the highest safety standards in these facilities.

On the contrary, security represents the degree of protection from danger, damage and losses resulting from this risk, and a large number of security measures in place in high-risk chemical installations are linked to physical protection.

Dr. Noor discussed the potential conflict between safety and security in chemical facilities, as safety necessitates marking everything so that people know the dangerous chemicals, as you have to inform the community and especially the emergency response teams about the existing chemical hazards and display the available information about chemical hazards so that people can be Ready.

Whereas, security assumes that marking is useful in identifying the target objects, which may lead to seizure and that displaying information about chemical hazards may lead to their harmful or dangerous use.

The symposium was attended by a group of professors and researchers, amid extensive precautionary measures to prevent Corona virus.
