The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, organized a symposium entitled "Man, Environment and Pesticides", on the second day of the Faculty Environment Week, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel-Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hisham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yamna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Nasser Abdel-Al, Vice Dean of the Faculty For Education and Student Affairs.
During the symposium, Prof. Dr. Kadry Weshahi, Professor of Pesticide Chemistry and Toxicology and Director of Toxicology Unit at the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, stressed that pesticides are a terrifying word, but their use is necessary in an appropriate amount, stressing that all the paths that occur in life are reflected in the environment. And the Creator has put in place a suitable ecological balance system with an amazing sequence that pours towards the realization of life for man.
He stressed that public health pesticides are a baseless word, as there are no pesticides that are safe for human health, stressing that the phrase “put down and sleep” to expel mosquitoes is a murder crime, as the mosquito repellent tablet secretes a toxic substance to kill the insect and has serious effects on Human health, and cause simple initial symptoms such as sinusitis, skin irritation and some surface infections, which are the simplest symptoms of exposure to these pesticides, and he continued his speech stressing the need to spray rooms with insecticides in the absence of anyone in them for at least half an hour.
He continued his speech by referring to the air fresheners that are commonly used in homes, which contain a compound called "sulfite", a substance that secretes the smell, which is a bird poison in the air as it is loaded with a solvent that is very harmful to human health in the long run.
Haditha went on to review the types of pesticides used in the process of spraying agricultural fields, stressing that they are a necessary evil, as they are necessary to maintain the good fruit formation process. But if it enters the human digestive system, it will cause serious complications, so be careful to wash vegetables and fruits with running water and not scratch them, and he stressed the importance of not scratching vegetables and fruits to avoid the entry of pesticide residues inside.
He reviewed the types of environmental pollution and its causes in the modern era, the incursion of factories on the city and the green areas, their effects on nature and the direct imbalance in the components of nature and their effects on human health.
After the symposium, a number of Faculty students at various stages gave poetic presentations and recited poems, and in the end Prof. Yomna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Nasser Abdel Aal, Vice Dean for Education Affairs, who honored Prof. Dr. Kadry and Weshahi, and handing him the Faculty Shield and a certificate of appreciation for his contributions to the success of the Faculty Environment Week.
