Within the framework of the series of celebrations for multiple environmental events held by the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University, the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University organized a wildlife workshop on the occasion of World Wildlife Day under the slogan "Forests and Livelihoods: Sustainability for People and Planets" under the patronage of Professor Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Hesham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Dunya, Dean of the Institute, and Prof. Dr. Hala Awadallah, Deputy Vice President for Community Affairs and Environmental Development at the Institute.
Dr. Hoda Hilal, the workshop rapporteur, organized the activities of the workshop. Prof. Dr. Noha, the Dean of the Institute, stated that the workshop was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, “where the online activities were held.
Prof. Dr. Noha Dunia declared that on December 20, 2013, the United Nations General Assembly at its sixty-eighth session decided to declare the third day of March as the day for the adoption of the International Trade Treaty for Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, which is the same day that was adopted as World Wildlife Day, and this date also coincides with this date. The day of the signing of the Agreement on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
The workshop discussed many goals such as preserving all forms of wildlife as a component of biological diversity, increasing cultural awareness to protect wildlife from degradation, ensuring sustainable use of resources, and paying attention to combating wildlife crime that has wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts, in addition to raising social awareness of the importance of animals. And wild plants.
Prof. Dr. Samir Dania concluded the opening of the workshop, where she expressed in her speech the importance of the role of the Institute for Environmental Studies and Research in celebrations of such important environmental days.
The seminar was attended by a group of researchers from the Environmental Affairs Agency, Egyptian and Arab universities, and from Arab countries, including (Jordan - Palestine - Iraq - Saudi Arabia - Libya).
The workshop activities concluded with the development of perceptions and recommendations for the protection and preservation of wildlife, such as raising the awareness of the local community on the need to preserve wildlife and the sustainable use of natural resources, through the establishment of trips and parties to wild places, while following the guidelines for protecting wildlife, and well planning the state's development projects to protect the path of soaring birds, with Using resources sustainably and mitigating threats to wildlife, and rationalizing the use of antibiotics in humans and animals so that genetic mutations do not appear in microbes that lead to the emergence of new disease-causing strains, and not to be exposed to animals whose health status is unknown to prevent diseases that may be transmitted to humans, in addition to protecting the natural habitat of wild insects as one of the most important elements of the food chain to preserve the natural balance of wildlife, and limit the spread of stray animals in scientific, compassionate ways.
