The Department of Islamic Archeology at the Faculty of Archeology, Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the French Institute for Oriental Archeology (Riwaq), is organizing a lecture entitled “The Impact of Arab Architecture on European Architecture in the Middle Ages in the period from (5-9 AH / 11-15 AD)” via the Zoom app on Tuesday 23 Next March at half past six in the evening.

Prof. Dr. Abdel-Monsef Salem Negm, Professor of Islamic Archeology, Head of the Department of Archeology, Faculty of Arts, Helwan University, Professor of Islamic Archeology, and Head of the Department of Archeology, Faculty of Arts, Helwan University.

The lecture deals with the impact of Arab architecture on European architecture in the Middle Ages in the period of the century (5- 9 AH / 11-15 AD), which is one of the topics that represent the integration of civilizations. The main pillars that affected the Arab-Islamic civilization, and when Islamic art became its characteristic and personal entity, and a cultural and civilizational prosperity occurred in the Middle Ages, the Arab-Islamic arts began to take hold in Europe, and this influence was embodied in the architectural aspect in many religious buildings, civil buildings and war buildings.

During the lecture, the means of transferring Islamic architectural ideas to Europe and the passages through which Islamic architecture were carried out to Europe, including Andalusia, Cyprus, Sicily, Italy, southern France, Poland, and Germany will be discussed, in addition to the most important elements that have been applied to examples of European architecture.
