Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Matini, President of Ain Shams University affirmed that eradicating illiteracy is a national goal, and this came during the celebration organized by Ain Shams University in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education on the occasion of Ain Shams University obtaining the first place at the level of Egyptian universities in the field of literacy according to the results of the course October 2020; where Ain Shams University students were able to literacy 7644 students.
In the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdel-Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Hesham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Ashour Omari, President of the Public Authority for Adult Education, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Galal, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Dr. Khaled Kadri, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of Faculty of Al-Alsun, Prof. Dr. Rukaya Shalabi, Dean of the Girls' College, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mortada, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Dr. Majed Abu Al-Enein, Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Sayed, Dean of the Faculty of Specific Education, Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the University's Adult Education Center, and a group of faculty agents for community service and environmental development, faculty members and students.
Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, added that Egypt is fighting illiteracy, stressing that all segments of society and its institutions must join hands to eliminate it, explaining that the issue of illiteracy is at the top of the national issues, which confirms the inevitability of making the utmost efforts to confront it and get rid of it, in line with Egypt's strategy 2030 Pointing out that the university has not and will not spare any effort to provide all forms of support and assistance to confront this issue.
Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, pointed out that what we are witnessing today stems from the university’s belief in its societal role, as the locomotive of development cannot continue without eliminating illiteracy, stressing the need to participate in the illiteracy project, and his Excellency referred to the participation of the Students Union at Ain University Shams in the project to eradicate illiteracy, and the number of illiterate people from temporary employment at the university was also counted, and communication between them and students and the General Authority for Adult Education was established to ensure that there is no intermediary between students and service recipients to prevent their exploitation, and he added that the university will pay the expenses on behalf of students who have met the required number to eradicate illiteracy 4 individuals or more to encourage our students.
The ceremony also witnessed the honor of Prof. Dr. Nazmi Abdel Hamid, the former Vice President of the University, and Dr. Islam Al-Saeed, Director of the University's Adult Education Center, the general coordinator of the project at the university, as well as Mr. Suhail Hamza, Assistant University Secretary for Community Service and Environmental Development, Dr. Fatima Ayad from the Adult Education Authority, in addition to honoring the coordinators of the literacy units in the seven colleges, and the coordinators of the Adult Education Authority, in addition to honoring the distinguished students from the Faculties of Education that won the first place, the Faculty of Girls for Science, Arts and Education, which won the second place, and the third place Faculty of Al-Alsun, the Faculty of Arts, ranked fourth, and the Faculty of Specific Education came in fifth, then the Faculty of Law in sixth place, followed by the Faculty of Business in seventh place.
During the ceremony, the cooperation protocol between Ain Shams University and the Public Authority for Adult Education was renewed. It is worth noting that the protocol includes coordination to set the general policy and determine the method of work in order to achieve the desired goals, in addition to providing the necessary technical support for the implementation of the literacy project, as well as supervising and evaluating what is being implemented and preparing a quarterly report to measure the extent of project implementation.
The university also gives university youth who participate in the project some incentives according to the capabilities available in each university. In addition to activating the role of the Adult Education Center to communicate between the authority and the university, and holding training courses to train university youth, raise the efficiency of workers in the field of literacy and methods of adult education, follow up on those who are illiterate, help them enroll in regular education, or help enroll them in classes for the preparatory study courses.
