Under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of the University, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Middle East Research and Future Studies, with the participation of His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Al-Orabi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Center’s Board of Directors, and His Excellency Major General Staff Officer. Fouad Fayoud, one of the heroes of the October War, and His Excellency Colonel Hatem Saber, an expert on international terrorism and information warfare, the symposium was moderated by Dr. Hatem Al-Abd, Director of the Centre. The Center for Middle East Research and Future Studies held a symposium on the occasion of the celebrations of the golden jubilee of the victories of the glorious October War.

Dr. Hatem Al-Abd welcomed the attendees, stressing the necessity of celebrating the glorious October victories to introduce young generations to the glories of the Egyptian army and its historical heroics, and to confront the false information being spread that aims to shake the youth’s faith in this great military achievement.

While His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Al-Orabi spoke about the importance of Egyptian diplomacy and the fundamental role it played before, during, and after the war, His Excellency also referred to the approach of former President Sadat in managing the war and his good selection of the appropriate figures for periods of war and peace, and his skill in negotiating to obtain Egypt’s full rights, Some of these discussions are even taught in military colleges in various countries of the world to this day, stressing at the end of his speech that diplomacy is a weapon no less important than a military weapon and that it is sometimes the most appropriate option for restoring rights.

His Excellency Major General Staff Officer. Fouad Fayoud reviewed the recording clip depicting the Bar Lev Line and the fortified points around it and how the Egyptian soldier, with his valor and skill, was able to penetrate this impregnable fortress and demolish the myth of invincible Israeli power. His Excellency also reviewed some historical pictures and maps that depict the events of the war in its various stages, from the setback of 1967 until the victory in 1973, through the War of Attrition, and the sacrifices and heroism made by the Egyptian army that are witnessed by history.

Then Colonel Hatem Saber moved from traditional military wars to modern information wars, where he stressed that today’s war is primarily information, and its goal is to exhaust the mind and disperse thought, or what is called sixth-generation wars, which aim to spread lies, mislead the facts, destroy the Arab peoples by eliminating their unity, and destabilize the constants and beliefs of their youth. His Excellency also affirmed that the Israeli occupation is nothing but a replacement occupation and its inevitable end is its disappearance without return. All we have to do is persevere, exercise reason, and diligently search for the facts.
