The Spine Surgery Unit, Department of Orthopedics at the Faculty of Medicine, honors the name of Prof. Mohamed Al-Ghawabi, a pioneer of spine surgery in Egypt and the Middle East

Prof. Abdel-Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs and Professor of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, witnessed the honoring of the name of the late Prof. Mohamed Al-Ghawabi, the pioneer of spine surgery in Egypt and the Middle East, and the founder of the spine unit in the Orthopedics Department at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University. This came within the activities of the third conference of the Spine Unit in the Orthopedics Department, at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, in the presence of Prof. Al-Zaher Hassan, Head of the Orthopedics Department, Prof. Magdy Gamal, Head of the Spinal Surgery Unit, and a large group of senior professors of spine surgery in various Egyptian universities and medical institutions.

During the ceremony, an aspect of the history of the late Prof. Muhammad Al-Ghawabi and his fingerprints in spreading and developing spine surgeries and creating an entire generation at the highest level of experience and excellence in a highly developed specialized unit was reviewed.

Where he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine from Ain Shams University in 1957, obtained a doctorate in 1964, and held the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopedics at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and established the Spinal Surgery Unit in the Orthopedics Department at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University, and he taught many orthopedic surgeons at his hands within Egypt and beyond.

         
   
         

The ceremony included handing over a symbolic shield to my daughter, the late Professor. Muhammad Al-Ghawabi, as an expression of thanks, gratitude, and appreciation from the unit to the great professor and teacher.

The spine unit also congratulated Prof. Fadi Michel for obtaining a professorship.

It is noteworthy that the conference included the presentation of many cases of the spine during lectures and scientific sessions by senior professors from various universities and medical bodies in a scientific and social evening that was appreciated by all attendees, where the attendees exchanged discussions about different treatment methods, the importance of a sound surgical decision, and the importance of specialization and training in decision-making, which reduces complications and enables the patient to recover quickly. The fourth edition of the conference is scheduled to be held in September 2023.
