In conjunction with International Women's Day...a symposium on "Cyber Violence...Challenges and Ways of Confrontation" at the Faculty of Law

The Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law and the for Egypt Central Family, organized a symposium entitled "Cyber Violence: Challenges and Ways of Confrontation", under the auspices of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University, Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Muhammad Al-Shafei, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Hind Al-Hilali, Executive Director of the Women's Support and Anti-Violence Unit.

Where the symposium was held at the Faculty of Law, coinciding with International Women's Day, to clarify the forms of electronic violence directed against women, especially blackmail and electronic harassment, and what are the challenges and proposed solutions for protection when they use technology and social networking sites, in the presence of Prof. Gamel Abdel-Baki Al-Saghir, professor of criminal law and former dean of the faculty, Dr. Hayam Al-Tabbakh, a deputy in the House of Representatives, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, information security expert and consultant at Fortinet International Information Technology Company, and Prof. Suhair Safwat, Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, Prof. Alaa Abdel Halim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, and a group of students and those interested in women's affairs and employees of the Faculty of Law.

The seminar was opened by Prof. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, explaining the role of Ain Shams University in addressing the methods of violence towards male and female students by uniting women's support and highlighting the role of clarifying the legal legislation and frameworks governing the phenomenon of electronic harassment and violence, which are widespread in many and different ways in Egyptian society today.

Prof. Hind Al-Hilali explained the issues and activities that the unit deals with, and explained the means of protection provided by the unit and the services provided to clarify the methods of protection inside and outside the university campus, workshops related to women’s empowerment, and how to communicate with the unit to benefit from the services provided.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Fattah, an information security expert and regional advisor to Fortinet International, explained what are the ways that target male and female students to breach privacy through social networking sites, giving more than one example while explaining how to protect and preserve privacy from penetration.

Dr. Hayam Al-Tabbakh referred to the role of the Egyptian legislator and parliament in enacting laws related to violence, especially violence against women, and what are the new laws in the law in the recent period as a result of the technological development against electronic crimes that are widespread in Egyptian society in a large way.

At the end of her speech, she asked the students of the Faculty of Law to make initiatives inspired by the students of the Faculty of Law, such as proposals directed to the Legislative Council within the Egyptian Parliament as a legal project that contributes to solving these problems and reducing the spread of electronic violence crimes.

Prof. Gamel Abdel-Baki referred to the legal frameworks governing cases of violence against women, especially cases related to information technology and cybercrime, in addition to the fact that the Egyptian criminal law has codified the punishment for perpetrators of these crimes through harassment and electronic violence.

Prof. Soheir Safwat, a professor of sociology, shed the light on the problem of electronic violence as a social problem, and explained the role of the family as the nucleus of society and as a single element of protection.

Prof. Alaa Abdel Halim, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Education for Community Service and Environmental Development, commented on the speech of Prof. Suhair Safwat, on the role of community service within the Faculty of Education in preparing young people to confront social issues and phenomena, such as violence in general, and especially those directed against women, such as harassment, violence, and electronic extortion.

At the end of the seminar, Prof. Hind Al-Hilali, Executive Director of the Women’s Support Unit, honored the attendance, as well as the leadership of the Faculty of Law represented by the Dean of the Faculty and the Vice Deans for the effort and fruitful support between the Faculty of Law and the Women’s Support Unit at the university.
