Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Education and Student Affairs, opened the eighteenth annual international scientific session "Ain Shams Course for Plastic Surgery, Burns and Maxillofacial Surgery", which is organized by the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, at Ain Shams University in cooperation with the Egyptian Society of Plastic Surgeons, sponsored by Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University and Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, and Prof. Osama Mansour, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, sponsored and attended by Prof. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and the presence of Prof. Hala Sweed, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Amr Magdy, Professor and Head of the Department of Plastic, Maxillofacial, Laser and Burn Surgery, at Ain Shams University, Chairman of the Conference, and Prof. Mostafa Hamida, honorary president of the conference and Prof. Mohamed Awad El Marakby, President of the Egyptian Society of Plastic Surgeons, and Prof. Ahmed Ali Hassan, Vice President of the Conference and Prof. Suha Al-Makawi, Secretary General of the Conference and Prof. Atef Emam, Secretary General of the Egyptian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ESRS).
In his opening speech, Prof. Abdel-Fattah Saoud appreciated the efforts of the Department of Plastic Surgery and the great development it has witnessed in recent years, stressing that the university administration and university hospitals have provided all support to achieve a breakthrough and a qualitative leap in the field of plastic surgery and burns and the development of medical service in the burn treatment unit and the laser unit and providing them with the latest medical devices to serve patients for free in the framework of the comprehensive medical service system for citizens and the health insurance system, in line with the efforts of the Egyptian state to upgrade the health system to provide the best medical care to citizens throughout the Republic.
He added that the Department of Cosmetology is a giant department with a real scientific school that succeeded in graduating generations armed with science, ethics, and professional codes of honor.
He referred to the role of the department in supporting the project to establish a committee to audit the master's and doctoral exams since he held the position of Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research and the results of the efforts of this committee in terms of standardization of examination and evaluation systems.
He congratulated the department on the 65th anniversary of its inception, pointing out the department's contributions in various fields of academic and administrative development as a result of the application of team spirit and teamwork.
Prof. Amr Magdy explained that the eighteenth scientific session of the department is held with the participation of a group of professors of plastic surgery, doctors, and a number of medical companies operating in the field, and the activities on the second day include the symposium of the International Association (AO) for bone fixation and deals with the use of technology and artificial intelligence, in the presence of 9 experts from Switzerland, in addition to ten professors from the Department of Plastic, Burns, Maxillofacial Surgery, who are distinguished in maxillofacial surgery, to discuss the most important and latest research in this delicate field. The symposium also includes a workshop on the use of Mixed Reality technology in planning and Performing maxillofacial surgeries. Also, Prof. Amir Al-Barbari, a professor in the department and representative of the Middle East in the International Association (AO), prepared and coordinated the seminar.
During the scientific session, which lasted for two days, more than 20 specialized scientific papers were discussed and presented, which presented new developments in the field of maxillofacial surgery and burn treatment.
It is worth noting that the scientific course was managed and the scientific content was presented during it in a continuous presentation method (streaming), which is an innovative and unconventional method that was well received by everyone and contributed to the delivery of information to the audience in an effective manner. It was recommended to use this method in the upcoming scientific activities.
The activities also included the presentation of a documentary film on the history of the establishment of the Department of Plastic Surgery and its achievements over the past 65 years.
