The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is on a scientific trip to Ashtum El-Gamil Reserve

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at Ain Shams University, organized a scientific trip for the students of the first year of the faculty to the Ashtoum El-Gamil Reserve in Port Said Governorate, under the auspices of Prof. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of the University and Prof. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Refaat Khafaga, supervisor of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ain Shams University, Prof. Atef Mohamed Kamel, Supervisor of the Department of Wildlife and Zoos, Prof. Hamza Ibrahim, the supervisor of the establishment of the Department of Bacteria, Immunology, and Fungi, Dr. Khaled Mohamed Salah El-Din, the supervisor of the Department of Animal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and Dr. Saeed Kamal Aboul Gheit Mohamed, Director of the Measurement, Evaluation, and E-Learning Unit.

Ashtum al-Jamil is a wetland reserve and is characterized by the fact that it includes Boghazi al-Jamil and Ashtum al-Jamil, which connect the Mediterranean Sea to Lake Manzala and work to renew the water circulation inside it, thus increasing the fish stock. The reserve also has the archaeological island of Tennis dating back to the Ayyubid age.

The reserve is located in the face of the migration routes of birds during the migration seasons, and the archaeological hill of Al-Tnis in the reserve is a place for rest, food, and breeding for all types of resident and migratory birds.

Dr. Hussein Rashad, the director of the reserve, reviewed the role of the reserve as a wetland area in attracting valuable and migratory birds, and the efforts made by the reserve to protect the birds. Also, Dr. Mohamed Sharif, assistant director of the reserve for research, reviewed the most important projects undertaken by the reserve and its role in protecting marine creatures such as sea turtles.

Prof. Atef Mohamed Kamel, Supervisor of the Department of Wildlife and Zoos, reviewed the Law of Natural Reserves in Egypt 102 of 1983, the migration paths of birds in Egypt, and the importance of Ashtoum El-Gamil Reserve as an important wetland area for valuable and migratory birds and the biodiversity of the reserve.
