The Faculty of Engineering students win second place in the activities of the Cairo Water Week

The students of the Department of Irrigation and Hydraulics at the Faculty of Engineering succeeded in obtaining second place in the graduation projects competition, which is held during the activities of the Cairo Water Week under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, October 2022, Prof. Dr. Hani Swailem, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, honored the winning students, and praised the outstanding level of the project and the student’s ability to work together and provide integrated and sustainable solutions to serve various aspects of development.

The participation of the Faculty team comes under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saoud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Omar Al-Husseini, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

         
   
         

It is worth noting that this is the fifth year in a row that the students of the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department have won one of the first places in the competition since it began in 2018.

The studies of protection against torrential rain included the analysis of rain data from the Dabaa station and the morphological analysis of the study area, and then designing plans to protect the city that includes four channels that extend along the city borders and then penetrate the city to the sea, which gives a wonderful architectural appearance of a waterway in the city center, in addition to Designing crossings under railways and roads that intersect with waterways tracks, and finally guiding barriers were established in certain areas to ensure that rainwater does not enter the city, in addition to designing a rain drainage network, to prevent rainwater from collecting on the roads and obstructing traffic.

As part of enhancing the city's water resources and in pursuit of sustainable, environmentally friendly development, the students designed a dam in Wadi Al-Zarqa, which is 30 km from Ras Al-Hikma city, with the aim of storing rainwater and using it to cultivate green areas in the city.

The integrated design of the drinking water and sewage networks has also been prepared to serve the city with its future expansions while providing network maintenance plans to ensure its sustainability.

On the other hand, due to the unique location of Ras Al-Hikma city on the northwest coast and its coastal area and distinct beaches, it was proposed to establish a group of international yacht ports and international tourist boat marinas as part of the economic and social development of the new city, where the students prepared studies The marine and in-depth morphology of the entire coast of the city, starting from collecting data and then using mathematical models to simulate natural phenomena such as waves, winds and sea currents, and then planning and designing yacht ports and the marinas for tourist boats, taking into account all the economic and environmental aspects of the project. In addition, the students studied the line balance Beach for the distinctive beach areas of the city, taking into account climate changes, and then providing sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions to protect the city’s beaches from erosion.

         
   
         

Finally, the students prepared environmental impact studies for all the submitted projects in addition to an economic study that includes the costs of establishing and maintaining these projects.
