The Faculty of Science continues a series of lectures on climate change and the carbon footprint and the university's efforts to transform into a green university

In continuation of Ain Shams University's efforts to transform into a green university, the Faculty of Science organized a public awareness symposium entitled "Climate Changes and the Carbon Footprint", under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Dr. Ghada Farouk, Acting Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ragaa Al-Sutuhi, Dean of the Faculty of Science, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Amani Suleiman, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Eman Abdel Azim, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.

Dr. Eman Gamal Ahmed Mohamed, a lecturer of plant environment in the Botany Department at the Faculty of Science and a member of the Center of Excellence for Sustainability at Ain Shams University delivered a lecture at the seminar

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ragaa Al-Sutuhi, Dean of the Faculty, thanked the students for their keenness to attend the symposium, and congratulated them on the new university world, noting that the symposium comes within the efforts of Ain Shams University headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini to contribute to Egypt's preparations to host the World Summit on Climate Change "COP 27" from 6 to 18 November in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ragaa added that climate change and its impacts and reducing emissions receive global and local attention, as it is no longer a luxury for everyone in Egypt to contribute to working to reduce carbon emissions and reduce their significant impact, noting the importance of every student of Ain Shams sciences being aware Full of the seriousness of climate changes that affect all aspects of life, the students of the Faculty of Science are the scientists of tomorrow, and climate changes affect food security and the possibility of drowning entire provinces of the Republic.

Dr. Eman Gamal, during the events, discussed the concept of the carbon footprint, and touched on solutions to reduce it, the method of calculating it, the concept of climate changes and the difference between weather and climate. She also explained the effect of the greenhouse and the causes of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide, which led to the formation of a layer of gases outside and inside the atmosphere. The atmosphere resulted in a rise in temperatures on the surface of the planet, the death of aquatic life, a rise in the level of ocean waters, and the melting of the polar ice caps.

She called on the students to preserve their mother planet, reduce their carbon footprint and their families, reduce electricity and water consumption, and take into account the environmental aspect of all their indoor and outdoor activities.

Dr. Eman Gamal reviewed the efforts of Ain Shams University to confront these climate changes by holding conferences related to the field and establishing a sustainability center that is based on solving problems and disseminating the sustainability methodology.
