Within the framework of cooperation and coordination between Ain Shams University and the Atomic Energy Authority for the exchange of scientific and research experiences, as well as the strategy of building scientific and technical cadres to serve the Egyptian nuclear program, Prof. Dr. Amr El-Hajj, President of the Atomic Energy Authority, and Prof. Dr. Hedaya Ahmed Kamel, Vice President of the Commission for Training and Cooperation, received The International Council, Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ghada Farouk, acting Vice President of Community Service and Environmental Development, and a delegation from the university to discuss aspects of scientific and research cooperation between the authority and Ain Shams University.
Al-Hajj welcomed the attendees and gave a presentation on the authority and its various centers and activities in the fields of peaceful applications of atomic energy. He stressed the need to expand the scope of scientific and research cooperation between the authority and the university to include all scientific and research aspects, advanced graduate studies and training to qualify university students and graduates for the labor market in the nuclear field to serve the Egyptian nuclear program.
The two sides agreed on a set of cooperation axes, which will include: conducting joint applied research between faculty members at Ain Shams University and scientists of the Atomic Energy Authority, joint scientific supervision of master’s and doctoral theses, activating the role of applied research to serve and transfer technology to industry, benefiting from research laboratories And the capabilities available to the authority to train undergraduate and postgraduate students, exchange experiences in research fields of common interest to prepare qualified scientific and technical cadres to work in the nuclear and radiological fields, cooperate in preparing and implement professional certificates approved within the framework of the university’s work, and finally, develop new programs to qualify Graduates to the labor market in the nuclear and radiological field to serve the Egyptian nuclear program.
Working groups will be formed from both sides to determine aspects and activities of cooperation in preparation for signing a cooperation protocol. The delegation from the university included: Prof. Dr. Nabil Al-Farmawi, Head of the Physics Department at the Faculty of Science, Prof. Dr. Hala Mahmoud Abu Sunna - Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi Director of the Sustainability Center at Ain Shams University, Dr. Amir Ezzat is a teacher in the Department of Chemistry, and Dr. Osama Ashraf - a teacher in the Physics Department at the Faculty of Education.
Also attending the meeting from the Atomic Energy Authority were: Dr. Mohamed Belbol - Professor of Physics at the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology and supervisor of the electronic accelerator, Prof. Dr. Jihan Saleh - Professor of Diagnostic Radiology at the National Center for Radiation Technology, Dr. Sayed Al Maghraby - Professor of Physics at the Nuclear Research Center And Dr. Noha Deghidi - Instructor in the Department of Polymer Chemistry at the National Center for Radiation Research and Technology.
Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, presented the university's shield to Dr. Amr Al-Haj, Chairman of the Commission, in appreciation of its national and vital role in the fields of research on the peaceful uses of atomic energy and its applications for community service and capacity building and specialized scientific cadres.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Amr El-Hajj called for arranging a visit for the delegation of Ain Shams University to the second Egypt Research Reactor Complex, by establishing an irradiation unit and an electronic accelerator in Nasr City.
