Browse Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reported on the inclusion of 76 Egyptian educational and research institutions in the results of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, issued in July 2022, with an increase of 4 educational institutions over the results of last year’s classification, which included more than 31 thousand institution of higher education around the world from more than 200 countries.
The report indicated significant progress in the ranking indicators for the best Egyptian universities.
Cairo University came in first place among Egyptian universities, and ranked 562 in the world.
Alexandria University came in second place locally, and ranked 660 globally.
Mansoura University came in third place locally, and ranked 933 globally.
Ain Shams University ranked fourth locally, and ranked 1070 globally
And Zagazig University is in fifth place locally, and 1115 globally.
The American University ranked sixth locally, and 1166 globally
Benha University is ranked seventh locally, and 1225 globally.
Assiut University is ranked eighth locally and 1257 globally
And the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology ranked ninth locally, and ranked 1393 globally
Al-Azhar University is ranked 10th locally, and 1399th globally.
The list included 66 Egyptian universities and other research institutions in distinguished centers around the world, including, according to the order at the level of Egyptian universities (Tanta University, Menoufia University, Kafr El-Sheikh University, Helwan University, Suez Canal University, Minya University, Beni Suef University, and the British University in Egypt, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, South Valley University, Fayoum University, Aswan University, German University in Cairo, Nile University, Damietta University, Zewail City for Science and Technology, Port Said University, Sohag University, Future University, Pharos University, and Misr University for Science and Technology Suez University, Sadat City University, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, Damanhour University, Delta University for Science and Technology, Misr International University, and 6th of October University).
Then came the Military Technical College, Egyptian-Russian University, Al-Nahda University, Higher Technological Institute, Sinai University, Badr University, Heliopolis University, Modern University for Technology and Information, Al-Ahram Canadian University, Deraya University, Horus University, and the Modern Academy for Engineering and Technology. Al-Arish University, New Giza University, Canadian International University, French University in Egypt, and Matrouh University.
On his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry's media advisor and spokesperson, said the Webometrics rating is an initiative of the cybermetrics foundation. Lab is affiliated with (CSIC), the largest research body in Spain, and the ranking is the largest in terms of the number of higher education institutions analyzed in preparation for participation, and every six months it presents an independent and objective scientific ranking.
The classification methodology is based on the following indicators, (Visibility) by 50%, and it measures the impact of the contents of the institution’s website and external networks that link to its pages, (Transparency) index by 10%, and (Openness) index by 40%, and it measures the most important researchers who have been cited from Where the number of citations is among the top 210 researchers, and the (Excellence) index measures the most important research papers cited in terms of the number of research papers among the top 10% cited in a field of different disciplines in the database during the previous five-year period.
The classification depends on the evaluation of the university’s website and electronic portals, the emergence and availability of academic content and research on the Internet of universities, the impact of scientific publications and research on the Internet, and the extent to which they are used. With the aim of measuring the promotion of open access to the knowledge that the university generates.
The official spokesman stressed the ministry's interest in working to improve the ranking of Egyptian universities in the various international university classification systems. Because of the importance of this for university graduates, as it is easy to obtain distinguished jobs in the labor market based on the university’s good reputation, in line with Egypt’s status as a destination for education in the Middle East and Africa, and its role in the region’s educational leadership.
