Sustainable development and entrepreneurship… A symposium at the Faculty of Al-Alsun

The Scientific Committee of the Student Union of the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University, organized a symposium on "Sustainable Development and Entrepreneurship", within the framework of Giving Back Initiative, under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdel Fattah Saud, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nasser Abdel Aal, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Radwa Imam, Assistant Professor of the German Language Department and Advisor to the Scientific Committee of the Student Union, and Prof. Dr. Eman Abdel-Fattah, Assistant Professor, Department of German Language.

During her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, the inevitability of linking universities and their programs with Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development, as universities represent the link between the student and the outside world, and work during the period of his studies to qualify him and prepare him to link his ideas and behavior to effective participation in a course in community life after graduation, pointing out that each activities and events organized by the university aim at refining the student’s skills and training him to present an honorable model of life after graduation.

         
   
         

She continued her speech, stressing that the development of new specialized programs at the university comes in response to the requirements of the labor market, and contributes to linking the graduate to the practical life in a stronger way, and stressed that these distinguished programs work to achieve justice among students in the first place, as the distinguished programs with expenses contribute to the rehabilitation of distinguished students ; On the other hand, their expenses contribute to providing the opportunity to meet the development requirements in the infrastructure for the students of the semester system as well.

she announced that the outputs of the previous stage, which witnessed the establishment of three electronic halls of the latest international style, witnessed by the faculty today, where the international exam for the Korean language was held there, and the new electronic halls in the faculty will witness the holding of exams for the British Council in Cairo, as well as the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, and these successes come within the framework of raising the international ranking of the university, and remaining under the umbrella of sustainable development and achieving maximum utilization and development of all available resources; In order to serve the educational process as well as community participation at the world level.

While Prof. Dr. Youmna Safwat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, indicated that there are 17 sustainable development goals, and universities in all their sectors have a major role in the country’s 2030 strategy for sustainable development. Universities have an important role in the 2030 strategy, pointing out that students contribute to sustainable development, explaining The Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University, during the last academic year, in cooperation with its students, was able to achieve a great community service through their contribution to eradicating the illiteracy of a few thousand illiterates, and with these community services the students were able to play their role in community service before their graduation.

She added that the faculty administration is working on recycling waste and rationalizing consumption at various levels, as the lighting system has been changed to the LED bulb system, as well as the transition to holding exams electronically, which contributes to reducing paper use, and the Finance Department is still working at full capacity and in cooperation between its various sectors to achieve the maximum levels of participation in achieving Egypt's 2030 strategy for sustainable development.

The symposium dealt with the principles and goals of sustainable development, and introduced the students to the most important international organizations and how to volunteer to work in them. The symposium also discussed entrepreneurship, and directed the students to ways to think about innovations and how to implement them through the Innovation and Development Unit at the Faculty and university.

Prof. Dr. Radwa Imam, advisor to the Scientific Committee of Al-Alsun Students’ Union, said that the aim of this symposium is to spread positive energy among students, expand their perceptions, and think outside the box, as job opportunities are no longer limited to traditional jobs. She also urged students to apply for volunteer work in various organizations, and to think in innovative projects after the symposium provided them with all the required information on this matter.

In conclusion, Prof. Dr. Salwa Rashad, Dean of the Faculty, honored the students who were members of the Scientific Committee of the Faculty Students’ Union who organized the symposium’s activities, and handed them certificates of appreciation in the interest of honoring the students of the Faculty and maximizing their efforts in community work in addition to their studies.
