A workshop on Shams system for scientific devices at the Network and Information Technology Center

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research, and under the supervision of Dr. Islam Hegazy, Director of the Network and Information Technology Center, the Shams Unit at the Center organized a training workshop on the Shams system for scientific devices. Engineer Mahmoud Ramadan, head of Shams Unit Department, who ran the training workshop, explained that the Shams System for Scientific Equipment is concerned with listing scientific devices in all faculties of Ain Shams University, determining their locations, types, status, function, maintenance date and warranty dates. During the workshop, which was held at the devices lab at the Network and Information Technology Center, he talked about the steps that can be taken to access the Shams system for scientific devices, how to modify and update data for devices, and how to add data for new devices, stressing that the Shams system for scientific devices has witnessed recent updates that included adding a date Maintenance of devices, and inventory of devices that are still under the warranty date. He explained that this update aims to provide complete data to researchers about the status and locations of the devices available for use, in addition to sending an email to the university's concerned authorities to remind some devices of the need for maintenance. Engineer Mahmoud Ramadan pointed out that the Shams system for scientific devices helps to make decisions regarding scientific devices in terms of the need to import certain devices or perform maintenance on other devices. The training workshop targeted all data entry personnel, whether they are faculty staff or employees in most of the faculties of Ain Shams University, which have scientific devices. For his part, Dr. Islam Hegazy inspected the workshop and stressed the need to work on updating the data of the scientific devices periodically, pointing to the possibility of communicating with the engineers in charge of the system if they encountered any difficulties or obstacles during their work. On the sidelines of the workshop, Dr. Islam Hegazy, Director of the Network and Information Technology Center, stressed the interest of the leadership of Ain Shams University in the university’s scientific equipment because of the possibilities it provides for researchers, in addition to its interest in providing all devices that help researchers to conduct their scientific research, and to advance the scientific and research process. It is worth noting that the number of scientific devices at Ain Shams University and its various faculties reached about 4038 devices of 1713 different types.
