NARSS and Ain Shams University celebrate the graduation of the second class of the professional diploma specialized in remote sensing

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reviewed a report submitted by Dr. Mohamed Zahran, head of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, regarding the celebration organized by the authority in cooperation with Ain Shams University, on the occasion of the graduation of the second batch of the professional diploma specialized in remote sensing and geographic information systems, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University, and Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Graduate Studies, and Dr. Islam Abul-Magd, Vice-President of the Authority and Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education for African Affairs and Space Sciences, a number of faculty members at the university and the Authority, and representatives of the Ministries of Environment and Antiquities.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Zahran, praised the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the authority and the university in the academic and research fields, with the aim of improving the capabilities of graduates in the fields of remote sensing and geographic information systems, in order to achieve the goals of the 2030 sustainable development plan for the Egyptian state.

The head of the authority added that this diploma is one of the fruits of this cooperation, pointing out that it is unique in comprehensive scientific study programs, whether at the theoretical level in the sciences of remote sensing and geographical information or at the applied level by training graduates on scientific and applied skills related to the field of these technologies, which enhances job opportunities. In front of these graduates, especially in light of the increasing demand for specialists in these fields all over the world.

On his part, Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini expressed his happiness at graduating the second batch of the professional diploma specialized in remote sensing, pointing to the university's colleges' interest in this diploma, especially the faculties of (medicine, agriculture, computers and information, engineering, education, and arts).

The President of Ain Shams University added that this diploma is based on studying important problems in Egypt and providing scientific solutions to them, such as: (cultivating arid areas, combating desertification, confronting torrents), as well as providing solutions to a number of societal problems and other areas, with the aim of achieving sustainable development goals. , stressing that this comes in light of linking the university's strategy and vision with the objectives of Egypt's 2030 strategy for sustainable development.

Dr. Ayman Saleh expressed his happiness in cooperating with the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, which is an example to follow in institutional cooperation, noting that the volume of cooperation with the authority will be expanded in the future in the areas of virtual laboratories, as well as the establishment of new diplomas unique in its specialization.

During the celebration, 3 research projects were discussed on “Choosing the Best Sites for Cultivation of the Most Important Egyptian Medicinal Plants and Biofuel Plants, Using Remote Sensing, and Developed GIS Tools: Flood Hazards in New Cairo City Center in the Fifth Settlement” and “Strategic Environmental Assessment” For some World Heritage areas in Egypt” by applying to Wadi El-Hitan and Wadi El-Rayan.
